The first and cheapest way to get to San Juan Island is to drive to Anacortes and take the ferry from there to Friday Harbor (the only ferry terminal on San Juan Island.) You can either drive onto the ferry or walk on as a passenger. Be sure to check the ferry schedule in the link below to find out what options you have for your trip.

If you want to drive on the island, you'll need to book a vehicle roundtrip reservation from Anacortes to Friday Harbor and back. In order to get onto the ferry as part of your reservation, you will need to be lined up at the terminal at least an hour before the ferry's scheduled departure.

After disembarking the ferry, Saltwater Farm is a short, 5-minute drive (see Q+A for driving/parking instructions at Saltwater Farm!)

Instead of driving onto the ferry, you can also simply park at the Anacortes ferry terminal and then walk onto the ferry. You can purchase a ticket at the terminal or purchase one in advance and you won't have to pay the vehicle fee for the ferry.

Bellair Shuttle offers multiple runs every day of the week, with pick-up/drop-off in Sea-Tac or downtown Seattle to the Anacortes ferry terminal, or southbound for your return home. Rates are $50-65 each way, not including ferry fare.
