If you have some extra time, spend a couple of days in the spa capital of the balkans. If you are looking for a relaxing time in Bulgaria, this is it. Only two hours from Sofia. Most of the hotels have spas, massages, and views of the Rhodope Mountains.

If I had to pick one thing Bulgarians are good at, it'd be eating. In no particular order, enjoy some classics.
• Shopska salad – a refreshing salad made with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, and grated cheese.
• Banitsa – a savory pastry made with phyllo dough, feta cheese, and sometimes spinach. Great breakfast paired with some Ayran to drink.
• Kebapche – grilled minced meat (usually pork or beef) served with Bulgarian spices and a side of salad.
• Tarator – a cold soup made with yogurt, cucumbers, garlic, and dill.
• Lyutenitsa – a roasted red pepper and tomato spread.
• Sarmi – stuffed cabbage leaves with minced meat and rice.
• Kyopolou – a roasted eggplant and pepper spread
• Shkimbe chorba- Tripe Soup
• Lukanka- A traditional salami
• Moussaka- The baked dish may remind you of a lasagne, but with a lot more vegetables and eggs.
• Prinzesi- Ground Meat Sandwiches
• Sirene- bulgarian feta sheep cheese
