Ashleigh and Ian met through two of their closest friends, Olyvia and Brendan Walsh. A full weekend of activities were planned to celebrate Memorial Day weekend in 2021. Due to the rain, they were stuck inside playing board games, ping pong, and drinking some of Ian's mother's infamous homemade limoncello. As the night went on, the limoncello continued to flow (responsibly of course!) and they found themselves alone talking in depth and getting to know one another. The next morning they were awoken to an unfortunate pipe burst causing water to leak all over the basement. Needless to say, it was an interesting first impression between Ashleigh and Ian, all before anyone could enjoy some morning coffee.

With Ian being shy, Ashleigh was the first to reach out. Their conversations went on for all hours of the day with Ashleigh working nightshift at the VA Hospital. After several months, they made it official.

Fast forward to the summer of 2023, with the big 3-0 approaching for Ashleigh. She decided she couldn't turn 30 in the United States, so she began planning a trip to Italy for her birthday. Exploring the romantic cities of Venice, Rome, Florence, and Positano, Ian knew it was the perfect place to propose. Unsure of a location, Ian's friend Scott recommended the Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence at sunset. After a full day of touring wineries on Ashleigh's birthday, they made the "long" arduous journey to the top of the hill... which Ashleigh was not too happy about. While she explored, Ian prepared an area for the perfect photo with the help of some newly made friends from the winery. After an initial moment of disbelief, Ashleigh said "Yes!" This made an already incredible trip even more special. The two ended the night at a restaurant, over looking the city of Florence, sharing tiramisu and limoncello.
