Our Wedding

The chances of a Florida girl and a Texas boy meeting, let alone falling in love, are pretty slim, but that’s our story. Both of us moved to Kansas in 2021 under different circumstances—one to be near family for health reasons, and the other to play baseball. Little did we know that God was working to weave our stories together so that we would meet and fall in love. February 2022…Ashleigh was attending Cornerstone Church with her family while Nate was playing baseball 25 miles away. One of his teammates, Arlen Peters, “just so happened” (Ruth 2:3) to go to the same church as Ashleigh. Arlen continued inviting Nate to try out Cornerstone’s young adults Bible Study and one day, Nate finally said yes. “Howdy” was the first word Ashleigh heard Nate say when he walked in the room in boots and jeans, and Ashleigh was a goner. After various group hangouts, and a lot of subtle hints, Nate finally caught on that Ashleigh was interested in him and asked her on a date. Our first date was dinner followed by a movie at a drive-in theater. Since then, we’ve seen each other through three major surgeries, the loss of family members and pets, and a variety of major life changes. We both pursued our faith in God together and became passionately involved in ministry, serving our church’s kids, youth, and young adults ministries. After dating for two years, Nate proposed on our family trip to Canada on July 8, 2024 at the Huckleberry Rock Lookout during “family photos” (everyone was in on it except for Ashleigh). After the proposal, we got to celebrate with our family and close friends in our family cottage with many stories and toasts. We enjoy doing lots of activities together including cooking, baking, playing disc golf, attending sporting events, going for walks, playing Canasta and other games, traveling, singing at the top of our lungs, dancing, serving others, and spending time with family and friends.&nbsp;

Sidney is Ashleigh's younger sister. She is the best baker in the family and could be your personal chef, barista or personal trainer. Ashleigh, Sidney, and Stephanie love working out and baking together. Sidney was a college athlete who swam for Biola University, but don't let her fool you - she's still clumsy. Sidney is now working in Orlando, Florida.

Stephanie is Ashleigh's youngest sister. Ashleigh and Stephanie are said to make the same laughing sounds, and they like to mimic each other: if one gets sick, the other gets sick; if one starts crying, the other starts crying. Stephanie is also Ashleigh’s personal fashion consultant. Stephanie is currently working and living in Fort Myers, Florida.

Betts is a retired nurse (including nursing service to the army during the Vietnam War) who helped Ashleigh move in to her apartment when she moved to Kansas. Betts became an adopted family member to both Nate and Ashleigh. She also serves with them in Cornerstone's youth and children's ministries. Ashleigh and Nate can often be found at her house having dinner or drinks.

Ashleigh and Kylie met at Cornerstone Church and became the best of friends. Kylie is a former college softball player and a new mama! She is a wedding planner, professional hand letterer, and an amazing artist. She and her husband volunteer in the Kids’ Ministry with Ashleigh.

Deborah is one of Ashleigh's cousins. They grew up canoeing together, which involved crashing into trees, and playing pranks on the boys. After firefighting in Atlanta, GA, Deborah now resides in Colorado Springs with her husband, their dogs, and guinea pigs.

Meghan is a next-door-neighbor to the MacGillivrays on Lake Muskoka. The Murrays and MacGillivrays have known each other for 60 years. Meghan and Ashleigh grew up skinny dipping, skiing, and tubing in the lake together with one of their two crazy dads at the wheel. Meghan currently lives and works in Canada.

Samantha is Nate's younger sister. She is in 8th grade, is a wonderful artist and has the best sense of humor. If you use a Sponge Bob reference, she will love you forever.

Even though he's a cat lover, Tyler has been there for Nate on his best and worst days and no matter how busy his schedule, he always makes time for Nate. Tyler's work ethic is unmatched which has set him up for success as he prepares to become a Business Analyst at McKinsey and Co. Tyler will graduate from Texas A&M's Business Honors School this spring.

From childhood teammates to cross town rivals, Nick has always been better than Nate at everything. Nate says that he is better at disc golf but has never beat Nick head to head. Nick is an avid guitarist and down for whatever as long as it doesn't cost more than $10. Nick is currently in his senior year at Texas A&M and will become a Sourcing Category Manager once he graduates.

Andrew is Ashleigh's younger brother even though he looks ten years older than her. Ashleigh and Andrew grew up as best friends in the Alabama country together engaging in mud fights, burying toy dinosaurs in the front yard, and pretending to be Steve and Terri Irwin. Andrew is now working in the computer software industry and currently resides in Fort Myers, Florida.

John is Ashleigh's cousin and brother to Deborah. Ashleigh and John grew to be like siblings. John has a particular love for throwing Ashleigh off of jet-skis and for scaring people with short, sudden bursts of sound. John served in the Marine Corps and now works as a wind turbine technician in California. 

John Whitlock

When Nate moved schools in the middle of the year, Chris was the first person to invite Nate to his lunch table. From then on they did almost everything together until they split off for college. Chris is by far, the best golfer in the group and also the best DJ. Chris will graduate from Oklahoma State University this spring.

It's no surprise that Jackson is pursuing a degree in Psychology after all of the free relationship counseling Nate has received over the years. Jackson has a wide variety of fields he wants to pursue but the bottom line is that he loves people and making a difference in their lives. Jackson currently attends Texas A&M University.

Preston and Nate were inseparable from the time they were in diapers to when they both moved off of Laurel Hall Ln. They learned how to play baseball together along with every other sport you can play in a cul-de-sac. Preston wears his heart on his very tight sleeve which makes him the most competitive in the group. Preston is currently attending Texas State University.

Adelie, Ashleigh, and Nate have grown very close because Adelie is in Ashleigh's Sunday School program. Like Ashleigh and Nate, she is an athlete and loves learning about Jesus.
