One December day in 2018, Ashleigh was set to work in the bathing department at work the same day Hector was there for grooming. Hector will tell you, "Ashleigh said, 'Hi,' and I said, 'I'm going to marry you'." Ashleigh took a little longer to come around to that idea. After a few years of saying, "no, thanks, Hector," she finally got some sense! "50 no's makes a yes!" Hector has always been passionate and loving. March 25, 2022 they became a couple. Their first date was at Universal Studios Hollywood. From the inception of their romance, they have been inseparable. He is her other half, she is his balance. October 24, 2023 in Gambrill State Park (Frederick, MD) Hector popped the question on a vacation filled with visiting and meeting some of Ashleigh's family. Through trials and hardships, happiness and adventure, Hector and Ashleigh have fallen more deeply in love with each other. Over the engagement, they have fostered 2 huskies and a pug, despite already having 3 dogs already! The pack only continued to grow as the fosters found their own forever homes, Ashleigh convinced Hector (didn't take much) to adopt 3 more dogs who needed a forever family. Now their pack of 6 lives their best lives and enrich the couple's lives with love and laughter. Ashleigh, the planner of the two of them, always wanted a whimsical outdoor wedding as close to the beach as possible. The idea of planning a wedding was so daunting that she would overthink it until she just avoided it, choosing instead to just enjoy the life that she was curating with Hector and their zoo of dogs. Hector, the free spirit, waited and waited until he truly knew he had to act. His action was to bribe Ashleigh with a trip to the beach for coffee and gelato, before surprising her with a tour at her dream wedding venue. In the spirit of love, they decided the wait was over and it was time to officially say, "I DO," surrounded by loved ones. Whatever is up next for the soon to be "Ramirez" Family, their story will not be boring.
Ashleigh grew up on the east coast, born in Virginia Beach, VA and raised in Leesburg, VA. She has one sister, Alyssa (Matron of Honor) who is just over a year younger. They grew up riding their scooters together, jumping on the trampoline in the yard, swimming in the pool, and sledding in the snow. Ashleigh rode horses, played guitar, and loved her Bichon Frise, Skylar. Ashleigh also loved learning, particularly math and sciences. She always had a desire for adventure, never quite sure where she would end up. As a young woman, she ventured to Southern California with minimal plans beyond get a job and find a way. After working as the first female Pony Walker at the local petting zoo in San Juan Capistrano (Zoomars) she found another job where she could be surrounded by animals. At The Zuri Pet Spa Ashleigh worked through the receptionist, pet care, driver, bather, and finally trained to become a professional groomer. During the first month at Zuri, Ashleigh met Hector who was a groomer on the weekends. She trained under Katherine Murphy (bridesmaid) and eventually assisted in training future groomers including Charlotte Grotewold (bridesmaid), both of which turned into dearly loved friends, and got to witness first hand what the "50 no's equals one yes" mentality Hector lived. He persistently kept his eye on Ashleigh until she finally saw the man who was in front of her all along. After that realization, the beautiful love story of Hector and Ashleigh was able to unfold.
Hector was born in Totatiche, Jalisco, Mexico. At 2 years old he was adopted by Lily and Jose Ramirez in an act of love that saved little Hector's life. He was brought to California and raised in San Juan Capistrano. His memories of growing up include summers at Doheny Beach riding his bike, learning how to take public transportation with his dad, and spending time watching his mom's favorite shows with her. There was always an uncle that would silently help a support him from the sidelines. It wasn't until he got older that Hector finally relised all those talks with Tio Sixto (groomsman) were based in deep kindness and encouragment. He also created memories when in elementry school, he met a robust 4th grader with a scorpion ear ring that seemed to get swallowed up by his ear lobe like it stuck in some flesh quicksand. Little did he know, Nicholas Bober (best man) would share in so many adventures, escapades, and, in many instances, trouble. Throughout the years they became brothers, and Hector eventully became a honorary Bober. Importantly, Hector had a dog named Happy that he was extremely fond of. He was raised with a love and respect for animals, always hearing his dad tell him to feed and care for his pets before himself. Hector's love for animals ran deeply and influenced him to get jobs at many of the pet stores and grooming salons in the area throughout his life. He spent years grooming all the way in Laguna Beach. That drive can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours, and there's no way to predict it. Hector heard through a friend that The Zuri Pet Spa was needing some help on the weekend. One thing led to another and he was part time at Zuri while still working in Laguna Beach. Hector didn't know it at the time, but this decision was going to lead to things he never expected. Of all the crazy dog people he knew, there were a few from Zuri that stood out. Hank Criddle(groomsman), who's sense of humor and kind nature meshed with Hector's right away, quickly became a lifelong friend. One weekend, Ashleigh was there in the bathing room at Zuri. Day one, Hector knew he was going to marry her. She was his coworker, friend, girlfriend, fiancee, and finally he is making her his wife.
