Shortly after the pandemic hits, long urban walks become a common pastime. We decide around this time to move in together.

Several months into the pandemic, Ashley starts cutting Martin's hair and they venture down to the Bend area for an isolated, outdoorsy road trip. Ashley also starts (begrudgingly) joining Martin once in a while for rounds of disc golf.

Ashley's exercise activity of choice is still bicycling, often while Martin is playing in a tournament.

Cricket is our all-the-time kitty.

Sometime between July and October of 2020, Ashley becomes obsessed with disc golf. Road trips now regularly include rounds of disc golf at different courses, including Fort Stevens on the Oregon coast.

In February of 2021, Martin and Ashley buy their home on North Oberlin Street.

Ashley is officially a competitive disc golfer. Martin had purchased her first membership to the Professional Disc Golf Association a few months before she won her first tournament in the Women's Global Event at Horning's Hideout.

Ashley takes Martin to Molokai to meet her family for the first time. Travel restrictions had forced them to postpone this trip for over a year.

Of course, while visiting Ashley's younger sister, Devon, on the Big Island, they drive all the way to the Hilo side twice to play two different disc golf courses.

Soon after returning from Hawaii, Ashley's parents, Alyne and John, visit them in Portland. They spent a day touring the Japanese Garden.

Martin and Ashley purchase a practice basket for their yard and have regular putting competitions through the fall of 2021.

Despite living in North Portland, Martin and Ashley often return to favorite restaurants from their first year of dating. A ramen place in SE Portland was always worth the drive.

At the start of January 2022, Martin and Ashley are making themselves known as a hard-core disc golf couple in the local scene, playing regardless of the season and weather. Luckily, the PNW brings some truly beautiful days even in the dead of winter.

Their growing disc collection requires an upgrade to the basement storage solution. Little did Ashley and Martin know, they would quickly outgrow this generous shelving unit!

PNW weather strikes! A surprise downpour in the middle of a round at Pier Park force Martin and Ashley to abandon all disc golfing plans for the day and return home absolutely soaking wet.

In July of 2022, having lost Cricket to old age just a few months prior, Ashley and Martin adopt an emaciated, matted, black mess from the Humane Society in Vancouver, WA. They name the good boy Freddie.

Needless to say, it was love at first flop.

Martin and Ashley start taking Freddie to play disc golf, despite how uncooperative he is when it's time to take a family selfie.

Freddie, the most snuggly boy, makes Martin swoon all the time.

Ashley can't resist Freddie's cuteness either.

A gorgeous Thanksgiving day spent disc golfing at McCormick Park.

In late December '22 to early January '23, Ashley, Martin, and Freddie go on a big disc-golfing road trip down to Santa Cruz, CA and back. They stop at 12 different courses along the way, including the iconic DeLaveaga!

Unfortunately, Martin's seizure activity has been worsening over time, though Freddie is among the best when it comes to recovery snuggles. We find out a little farther into 2023 that Martin will require brain surgery to resect the tumor that has grown back.

Ashley and Martin continue to enjoy disc golf and each other, despite their shared anxiety about the upcoming procedure.

Martin insists he can share Ashley's clothes and proves it by putting on her sweatshirt.

The week of Martin's surgery, his mom (Alison), and the Merediths (Deb and Stiles) come to Portland. Their support and caregiving during this time was everything.

After almost a week in the neuro ICU, Martin finally comes home. Freddie is beyond relieved to have him back, but can tell he needs all the recovery snuggles. Freddie is the dog for the job!

About a month after his surgery and just before starting chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Martin and Ashley go back to Molokai for their oldest nephew's graduation luau.

Disc golf adventures continue! Martin doesn't play competitively during his recovery and treatment time, but casual rounds with the doggo abound.

The Minnis family comes to Portland for a New Year Masquerade (and karaoke)!

Every fall/winter, Martin and Ashley play team disc golf with a motley crew of tie-dyed pals called Hyzer Sandwich. In 2023-24, even with Martin still recovering from his surgery and undergoing chemo/radiation, they take down the league championship.

Martin, feeling better all the time, competes in the Spring Celebration at Stub Stewart and Buxton. Ashley plays caddie.

Not to be out-caddied, Martin is there to hold the umbrella for Ashley when she gets her first significant FPO win at a rainy Oregon Women's Series event at Horning's.

After too many years, Martin finally makes a trip back to Philly and the place where his love for disc golf was born, the historic Sedgley Woods. He and Ashley compete in the Philadelphia Open, and Martin shows Ashley around his old stomping grounds.

Just a few months later, Martin and Ashley return to Hawaii to visit the Kikukawa `Ohana--but also to compete in the Big Island Open, a two day, four round event. Amazingly, they both won their respective divisions! Shoutout to some amazing caddies, Devon and Pono!

To celebrate Martin's birthday, they went to Kann, a fancy Haitian restaurant in SE Portland.

In the spring and summer of 2025, Martin and Ashley are preparing for their wedding and very much looking forward to this celebration of all the love and life shared with family and friends.
