Our Story
How We Met
How we met... We always laugh about this one. One day Ashlyn got a Facebook friend request from this guy (Brett). She thought she knew him, but couldn't figure out from where. A few days went by leaving the request alone, she finally decided to add him. Later that night at 9:25 pm, she got a message on Facebook stating, "Do I know you?" and the conversation started like this...
"I don't know you added me so you tell me?"-Ashlyn
"Well you look really familiar and I seen you live in Weston"- Brett
"Hmmmm"-Ashlyn
"Sorry I thought I knew ya"-Brett
"You're fine."-Ashlyn
"How's your day been?"-Brett
And the conversation continued from there to eventually this...
"I know this probably sounds weird but if you want you could add me on snap."-Brett
"Sure"-Ashlyn
After that the snaps started and the conversation continued. Ashlyn played hard to get and stubborn as usual and Brett was consistent on trying to hang out with her. Eventually, Brett started to give up, but started posting stuff on his snapchat story. Almost every time, Ashlyn would respond to his snap story. Then, one night they hung out for a bit. After that, Ashlyn ghosted him. A couple month went by of occasional conversation. Then, Ashlyn was on her way home from Grand Island and didn't really want to go home yet, so she messaged Brett. They ended up driving around for 4 hours that night until about 1 in the morning. After that night, they have spent every day together! The rest is history!!!!!
Engagement Story
Within the month that it had happened, Brett had texted Ashlyn around 4:30 pm (while Ashlyn was sleeping for work), telling her that he was going to go to JC Pennys with his mom to go look at a new sport coat.

About a week and a half before the proposal happened, Brett had asked Ashlyn, "Do you remember what I promised you for Christmas last year?" She quietly said no. He proceeded to refresh her memory about professional photos. Ashlyn immediately got excited and really started to "catch on."

She started picking out outfits for the photos. Brett wouldn't tell Ashlyn who was doing them or where at. About this time, Ashlyn got a text from her mom saying that her parents would be down Oct. 25th weekend to help hang blinds (as this was an early Christmas gift.) All within this timeframe as well, Ashlyn had just gotten her hair and nails done.

The day has come, Friday October 25, 2024. Ashlyn got ready while her parents were in town and Brett was at work. Brett got home from work and quickly changed clothes and freshened up. They headed out and ended up at Lake Wanahoo.
They started taking a couple photos. It was a chilly night. As the photographer was trying to do get the settings corrected, Brett was slightly shaking just enough for Ashlyn to feel it on her back. Ashlyn had a weird gut feeling something was going to happen so when she felt the shakes from Brett, she states, "Dang, it's cold out here."
Seconds later, the photographer said,"Alright I think we are good now." He got down on one knee quickly, ring out, but didn't say anything. He froze. In Ashlyn's mind, she was thinking, is this forreal, is this a joke, what is happening? Then Brett proceeds to say, "So, you wanna do this damn thing?"
"We're doing the damn thing" has always been one of Ashlyn and Brett sayings from the beginning. Just a little back story for people who don't know. :)
Ashlyn laughed with joy and immediately said yes with a few tears in her eyes. Brett put the ring on her finger and it fit perfectly!
