It is shocking that Austin and I never crossed paths throughout middle and high school. We shared mutual friends but never really had any conversations, Austin even took my senior picture for golf. I even remember that day and I would purposely go to the opposite side of the green just to make it difficult for him because I do not like pictures being taken.
For our first date, Austin picked Longhorn steak house, which he was worried that I would not like because I might be a vegetarian (not really a worry for me). The day of our date, Austin's phone had died because he forgot to charge it overnight and there was no power at his apartment the day of our date due to storms the night before. One of our first conversation, was me asking him if he went to Millard South and he instantly went "Oh no". Which in the end was not a big deal and we closed out the restaurant and many more after that.
The first time Austin told me he loved me was after our first Chiefs game in Arrowhead stadium. We drove down that morning to have lunch with a friend of mine. We made it the stadium right at kickoff in the 90+ degree heat to watch the Chiefs come out with a win. On the way out of the parking lot Austin ran into "rough terrain" when he took his dad's car through the grass to avoid traffic .Which is still a joke to this day when we hit a bump in the car that it is "rough terrain". When he dropped me off at home that night after the game, Austin pulled out a metal rose he had made to given to me to add the cherry on top of the perfect day.
The day Austin planned to propose did not go as planned. He had worked it out to go horseback riding and find a beautiful place to pop the question. Well, the day of the trail guide cancelled on him throwing a curveball into his plans. Austin had to propose that day since some of my family knew about him wanting to propose and they are not good at keeping a secret... who could it be I wonder. Even having to think on his feet, Austin was able to pull off a great proposal with a car ride through the country, a movie "Uncharted", and a walk at Zorinsky lake to the bench we sat and talked on one of our first few dates.
Since then we have moved in and out of our apartment in Omaha. We bought a house (twice!!) in Yutan. Adopted our dog Maximus who is pet therapy certified and is loving the house. Pushed each other to accomplish our dreams, Austin is going back to school to work on a degree in business and I published my first book and currently working on a second. Austin is moving up levels at work and I am in my second year of practice as an occupational therapist. All awhile we have been engaged longer than we dated, but we are ready for the next chapter together. #Blessed
