Steve and Avery met in engineering at the University of Saskatchewan when they sat together in corrosion engineering with their mutual friend Alex ("Yak") back in 2015. They quickly became friends and spent many hours together studying for classes and hanging out outside of school with the chem eng friend group where they found they had a lot of common interests. One of these common interests of course was dogs, with Tundra being Steve's best wingman! They both had crushes on each other but some poor communication skills (typical engineers) mixed with being too scared to say anything for a couple months, they grew their friendship. The rest was history though on Halloween they decided to ditch the bar and go on their first date... eating pizza while Steve was dressed as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

Since then, they have went through many phases in their relationship. From being together practically 24/7 while finishing school - being lab and assignment partners up until 2am finishing work - to being apart for months on end while Avery moved to Red Deer for her internship. In 2018 Steve took the leap and moved out to Alberta to live with Avery and started a new job there. Shortly after, they got their first dog together Dexter.

The Covid years brought them closer together with Steve proposing to Avery on his birthday in 2021, one-upping his surprise birthday trip to Jasper. 2022 brought more life changes with new jobs for both of them and a move up to Sherwood Park where they bought their first house! In 2023 they welcomed a new pup Lily to round out the crew and decided that they had now "settled down" enough to plan a wedding.
