Our Story

OUR STORY

Devon moved to Annandale, MN in sixth grade. They rode the same bus (#6) every morning and afternoon. When Avery first laid eyes on Devon loading onto the bus for the very first time, she instantly swooned over him. Though, she was quite shy and kept to herself. Devon often recalls Avery picking on him with the help of her two little sisters, Presley and Finley. Though, Avery does not like to admit that her kind heart could ever be so mean.

Devon and Avery began talking more intimately in the ninth grade. They were in the same general friend group, so it “just made sense.” As they became closer and more fond of each other, they began hanging out together outside of school. One of Avery’s favorite memories of the start of their relationship was when Devon met her parents for the first time. Devon was selling salt for the annual football fundraiser and drove to Avery’s house to talk to her parents. Devon arrived as Bruce, Avery’s dad, was cooking supper. Devon, being quiet and awkward, tried to sell his bags of salt as Avery’s dad invited him in for a meal. Bruce offered creamy cucumbers and Devon politely declined his offer as he did not like them at the time (Devon is a picky eater.) Bruce gave him a scoop anyways and Devon finished the plate despite it being “yucky.” From then on, Devon came over every weekend for a movie night with Avery and her friend in the basement of her house.

For a year, Devon and Avery continued to talk and grow closer. On October 15 of 2016, Devon invited Avery to a family hayride with his friend, Matt, whom he had been living with at the time. Avery kindly accepted his offer and attended the event. As the evening approached, the sun went down, and the weather became chilly. Devon offered to walk Avery to the car to get her sweatshirt. Devon started to talk about future goals of their relationship. Avery had an idea where the conversation was heading and her heart began beating faster and louder. So loud, she could barely hear. When this happens, she nods her head, giggles, and agrees. Later that evening when Devon dropped Avery off at her house, Avery’s phone blew up with notifications from friends. “About time,” “Congratulations!!!” “How did Devon ask you out?!” They all asked. Avery was lost. She did not know she agreed to being Devon’s girlfriend, damn pounding heart. Avery called Devon to clear the air and agreed to being his girlfriend for the second time.

Avery and Devon now have been together for seven years. In this time, they graduated high school and attended college. Devon went to St. Cloud Technical College to become and electrician. While Avery attended Concordia College in Moorhead for nursing. For the first two years, being two hours apart was difficult. However, Devon made the drive to stay with Avery in her dorm room every weekend. One night as they were laying on the futon, Devon was surfing craigslist and found a scottish highlander for sale. Devon and Avery bought their first cow together and named her Darla, talk about an impulsive purchase. After two years of being in the campus dorms, Devon and Avery signed their first lease together for an apartment. Devon and Avery lived in their apartment for two years. They adopted two lion head bunnies, Max and Ruby, and one golden retriever, Arlo - Which were all a secret while they lived in the apartment. Devon and Avery finally moved out to the farm in May of 2023 where they renovated the upstairs of the farmhouse.
