STAY AWHILE

We've made blocks of rooms at two Poughkeepsie hotels&nbsp;(below) that are around a 20 minute drive to the venue. The area is also filled with many adorable Bed &&nbsp;Breakfasts as well as fantastic AirBNBs. There is some parking at the venue, as well as&nbsp;Ubers in the area, so you'll be able to join us from wherever you stay.

MAGIC SCHOOL BUS

While there is some parking at Liberty View Farm, a shuttle will be available&nbsp;on Saturday for those staying in and around the Poughkeepsie hotels.&nbsp;At the end of the night, a shuttle&nbsp;will arrive at Liberty View Farm to bring guests back to the hotels.&nbsp;

TIPS FOR TRAVELERS

We are so appreciative that you are traveling all the way to the middle of nowhere to join us in celebrating our wedding! Below is the name of the train station, as well as airports close-by (in order of proximity) for your convenience.

If you are flying into the New&nbsp;York area, you can either take Amtrak/MetroNorth trains to Poughkeepsie, which is&nbsp;a 20 minute drive to the venue and 10 minutes to our hotel block, or rent&nbsp;a car and drive up. If you're driving, it may be worth bringing or&nbsp;renting an EZ pass, as many of the roads have tolls. There are also buses to New Paltz, only 10 minutes from Liberty View Farm.

THE VERSIONS

Her Version

It was a typical, freezing Thursday in February in Syracuse, New York. Upperclassmen with puffy jackets packed into the favorite SU bar, Chucks (RIP&mdash;it has since been demolished), listening to Top 40 music and drinking $6 pitchers of beer. I was sitting at a table when I noticed, at another table across the bar, one of my most favorite friends, Arria, talking to a cute boy. I recognized him, maybe from the basketball game we had gone to earlier.

The effort to squeeze through all that down polyester to make it to her was too much for me to truly consider, so I texted her: 









“Who’s that boy? Do you love him?” (Arria and her boyfriend, Bronk, were on-and-off through some of college, as all couples are, so I had to ask...but fortunately I was just out of the loop, they were back together, and have been in love ever since &lt;3)









She replied, “Haha, no, but he wants to meet you.”









It could have been the music (“Rack City” was very popular that spring, and its repetitive bass is hypnotizing) or the $6 pitchers of beer, but I didn’t quite follow. I replied, “No&hellip;do YOU love him?”









She laughed, “NO, and because I do not love him, he wants to meet you!”









I looked up from my phone and across the bar once again. She was pointing at me and whispering to him. 









We had a confusing back and forth, and I eventually agreed to walk (“‘scuse me, ‘scuse me, can I squeeze by you, sorry, ‘scuse me”) over to them. I sat down across from Arria, and the cute boy turned away, talking to someone else. Arria and I giggled and rolled our eyes at how dumb boys can be sometimes. She finally got the chance to introduce me to Andrew, who most people called Shank. What a weird nickname, I thought. Maybe he shanks people. Oh well, it’s college!











We talked about how we knew Arria (he knew Bronk from the business fraternity, and me, Arria, through the honors frat) and the upcoming Aziz Ansari show (tickets had become available that day). A few minutes later, his friends were leaving, and Arria and I had to get in the 15-minute-long bathroom line (gotta plan ahead). He said “Well, it was nice meeting you. Maybe I’ll see you at Aziz.”











Now you must understand, Syracuse only has a couple worthwhile bars near campus&mdash;one known for freshmen sneaking in with fake IDs, one was, for lack of a better term, exclusive to specific sororities and fraternities, and Chucks was for everyone else. Everyone I knew went there every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. The chances that I wouldn’t see this guy, a friend of my friend, until a comedy show 6 weeks later was a stretch.











Another sidenote: I was living by a serious “New Year, New You” mantra. I had cut super cute bangs over the winter, and was determined to spend my last semester at school having fun with friends, doing only what I wanted, and of course finishing my thesis (which I did, Mom and Dad.)











Liquid courage and blind self-assuredness formed my response.









“Well, I’ll be here, probably every weekend before that.”









Andrew/Shank laughed, “oh, haha, right. Okay see ya!”











In the long bathroom line, I recounted our conversation, line by line, to Arria. Everyone needs friends like Arria.











The next day, Arria texted me that Bronk was having a party at his house for the business frat, and said “Andrew told me to invite you.” Stoked, both to hang out with Arria and see this mysterious Aziz fan with a weird nickname one more time, I agreed. I got there early and was chatting with Arria and some other friends by the door when I saw him. He walked in, made eye contact with me, and walked right past me to greet someone else. This boy! I thought. Probably 20 minutes later, I got the “oh hey!” fake-surprise you get when someone is finally ready to face you. We talked about guitar and tennis (both classes I was taking at the time&mdash;remember, I was a super senior) and teased each other about whose serve was better, who would kick whose butt in a match.











At some point, we stopped talking and I went upstairs with Arria to eat chips that only friends-of-the-girlfriend-of-the-party-host have access to. I walked outside to head home, and saw Andrew standing on the driveway.











“Well, nice seeing you again,” I said, while giving him an awkward side hug.









“Yeah you too” he said, standing just as a board does when being hugged by a stranger.









I turned to walk away when he said, “Wait, so this tennis thing, how should we do this?”









Again, I blame it on the bangs. I replied “... you’re going to ask for my number.”









He took out his phone and I gave him my number while mentally high-fiving myself for being so bold. 











This is the sad part: I didn’t hear from him. The rest of Friday night was gone in the blink of an eye. Saturday, nothing. I didn’t have his number, so I had no other choice than to decide he had died. And so young. I hoped his friends were doing okay.











I was reminiscing with Arria about our brief relationship before his passing when I finally received a text on Sunday night. He was alive! And filled with “that’s what she said” jokes. We made plans for a date: I’d pick him up after class on Thursday and we’d go play tennis, then separate to change, and walk together to Chucks. I would like the record to show that I won the match. He may say he let me win&mdash;this is a lie.











He bought me a drink (because the loser had to by the first drink) and we talked for hours, not realizing that we never went back for a second round. I met his&nbsp;roommates, we said hi to Arria, and he walked me home. 











That became our routine: I’d pick him up (along with&nbsp;his roommates, Eric and Ben), we’d play doubles, and then meet back up to walk to the bar. Eventually, we added Wegman’s trips to the rotation. Sometimes Andrew and Eric would invite me to eat dinner with them, and I’d pretend to enjoy whatever Seinfeld episode was on. 











At some point, we started applying for jobs, and eventually agreed to only look in the East Coast. Our families met at our graduation in May (very early in a relationship for all family members to meet each other), and afterwards, Andrew took me to his hometown so he could show me where he hit his first home run. He dropped me back off in Syracuse, and we spent the rest of the summer apart, practicing long distance, which we thought might be inevitable.











In June, Andrew got a job offer in New York City; coincidentally, so did my BFF Denise. They were both struggling with finding trustworthy and affordable summer subleases in the Big City, so we decided the two of them could split a summer apartment together. The Saturday before their jobs started, I packed up everything I hadn’t already shipped home, drove to Ithaca to pick up Denise, and we made our way to their summer home on the&nbsp;Upper West Side. My plan was to stay for a week to help Andrew and Denise get to know each other better, and then drive home to Florida to continue my job search.

His Version

When Andrew Met Becca:



First and foremost, my story is 100% true and the accurate version of how Becca and I met. You might hear or see otherwise, but always remember that the following paragraphs are the&nbsp;official&nbsp;story of how Becca and Andrew met:







February 4th, 2012.&nbsp; #9 Syracuse vs #25 Notre Dame, 7pm&nbsp;Carrier Dome. Syracuse goes on to beat Notre Dame 63-47 on their way to a successful season that ends at the hands of Michigan in the Final Four. More importantly, this is the evening that I first met and noticed Becca Kroll.&nbsp;

Surrounded by friends in the Carrier Dome, I knew most of the people sitting around me, except for one person. There was a cute mystery girl directly in front of me, but I had NO idea who it was. I thought to myself, “I have come to Syracuse games for four straight years with generally the same people, and have never seen her before&hellip; she must not be from here or just not a very good sports fan&hellip;&nbsp;wink wink.” I made a mental note and later, while at Chuck’s (a local Syracuse bar) asked my good friend Arria, “Who was that&nbsp;beautiful&nbsp;friend of yours at the Syracuse game?” She replied, “Oh that was my friend Becca, and she happens to be sitting right over there.” As any confident young man would, I begged her to have Becca to come over and meet me. When Becca came over to talk, we immediately bonded on two fronts: We were both fans of the show “The League” and had tickets to see Aziz Ansari in a few weeks. The night ended with a smooth move from me saying, “See ya at Aziz!” This all happened without exchanging numbers or&nbsp;actually&nbsp;planning to meet up. SUCCESS!&nbsp;So, the main takeaway from this first story is that me, Andrew Wynschenk made the first move in our relationship (No matter what Becca says).







Fast forward to&nbsp;two days later, where Becca officially closed the deal. Luckily, our mutual friend Greg Bronk threw a house party that we both attended. We started talking towards the end of the night about another key mutual interest, tennis. Again, as a smooth confident college student, I said “Great, see you at Drumlins (tennis bubble in Syracuse), have a good night.” Yet Becca always the smarter half, realized this would not suffice, and asked “Aren’t you going to need my number?”&nbsp;So, with that, I concede that Becca was the closer in this relationship, but it still must be stated that I am the opener and originator. From there, we went on to have our first date, which was an intense tennis match where I let her win&nbsp;J. The timing of all of this of course fell right around mid-February. So, a few days before Valentine’s day I asked Becca, “What are you doing&nbsp;on Tuesday&nbsp;night?” And she responded with, “Uh nothing, it’s just a&nbsp;Tuesday.” Even though she did not realize it was Valentine’s Day (initially), I planned a VERY romantic dinner, with home cooked of eggplant parm and stopped by CVS to pick up some cheap bear and hearts mug. Thankfully she pretended to love my cooking and agreed to keep feeling things out while we were still at school. For the rest of the of the semester, weekly tennis dates and Wegmans trips occupied our time, while she put up with me and my interesting roommates. &nbsp;







As we drew closer to graduation, there were a lot of uncertainties for what the future would hold for our relationship. Neither of us had a job and my parents were living in Alaska, while hers were in Florida. Again, being the smooth college senior, I probably tried to end it 2-3 times prior to graduation. Was I going to move back to Alaska with my parents? Was Becca going back to Gainesville? Could we still be together living thousands of miles away? I was a little unsure, scared, and nervous; however, Becca the strong one, convinced me this would work. After graduation, we both went our separate ways;&nbsp;me to Sharon, and Becca still in Syracuse for a few weeks prior to heading to Florida. These few weeks are the most important in our relationship, as I found a job in NYC and desperately needed a place to live ASAP. Of course, Becca came to the rescue and connected me and Denise for a summer sublease in Harlem. Becca helped move Denise down from Ithaca and planned to stay with us for a few nights. Except she didn’t. She stayed the entire summer, working at JCrew&nbsp;and stealing internet from Columbia. Without me living with Denise and Becca coming down to live in NYC,&nbsp;who knows what would have happened to us. Thanks, Denise! Thanks, JCrew! Thanks, random renter in Harlem! Thanks, to me and Denise’s first job start date being the same!







&nbsp;I am very lucky for Becca’s confidence in asking for my number, her refusing to let distance separate us, the fact she stayed at Syracuse for a fifth year, her fortitude by not running away when I smacked her in the head with my tennis racquet, and her helping me find an apartment with Denise&nbsp; that&nbsp;forced&nbsp;her to move to NYC, where the rest is history!
