How to Get Here

Getting to Skagway, AK is a little long and tricky, but not impossible! Below are your options. We are more than happy to help you book your travel, since it is a bit confusing! The below options can be done round trip, or you can mix it up and choose a different option for your arrival and departure days :) Option 1: Fly into Whitehorse, Canada (via Vancouver), rent a car, and drive 2 beautiful hours to Skagway. You will need your passport for this option! Option 2: Fly into Juneau, Alaska and travel to Skagway by one of 3 options below. Please note that your flight times may not work out with the boats, and this might mean spending the night in Juneau. Also, weather will impact Alaska Seaplanes flights.- Book a 45min plan ride with Alaska Seaplanes (flights are out of the Juneau airport). This option is about $250 ONE WAY. Please be aware that these are very tiny planes and you will land in a narrow valley. There are about 3 -4 flights a day.- Book a ticket on the Alaska State Ferry (~$85 one way). Take a Taxi from the airport or your Juneau hotel to the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry Terminal and take a 7 hour ferry ride. You can book a private room on this ferry, and there is food as well as lounges. You can even put a car on the ferry! These ferries depart for Skagway usually around 7am, arriving around 1:30pm. For the return, they usually leave around 2:15pm and arrive Juneau around 9pm.- Book a ticket on Alaska Fjordlines (~$165 one way). Take a Taxi from the airport or your Juneau hotel to Statter Harbor at Auke Bay where you will catch a medium sized vessel that will take about 3.5 hours to get to Skagway. On this boat, there will be light snacks and drinks as well as plenty of opportunities for whale watching and other wildlife viewing. This is our favorite option for people when they come visit. You will leave Juneau at 4:30pm and arrive Skagway at 8pm. For the return, you will depart Skagway at 8am and arrive Juneau at 11:30am. They do offer a bus for an airport drop off. This is the both reliable and quick. If you can time planes just right, you will be able to arrive same day into Skagway.

Medevac Insurance

There is a clinic in Skagway, but it can only prescribe a limited amount of drugs and perform rudimentary procedures. If you break a bone or become extremely ill, you have to get medevacked to Juneau or Anchorage. It is a good idea to check your insurance for this kind of coverage or purchase traveler's insurance for the trip if you are concerned about a possible injury or have an underlying medical condition.

Where To Stay

Most accommodations in Skagway won't take bookings for 2025 until September or later. Please check back frequently with them! We only have a few of hotels in town, but you can also book an Airbnb. Skagway is VERY walkable and flat. There is almost no need for a car if staying at one of these hotels or at an AirBnB that is in town. If you book something out on the Dyea road, you will either need a car or call a cab. Please note that we only have one cab in town and rental cars are about $250+ per 8 hours. Also, all the hotels are very similar in price, whether upscale or not.

This is a hotel with a lot of charm and only several rooms. Feels more like a Bed &amp; Breakfast, but without the breakfast. It is barely 2 short blocks from our home.

At The White House

This is the only hotel in town that feels like a real hotel. It is upscale and also has a cafe and dining area downstairs. It is only 5 short blocks from us.

Westmark Inn Skagway

This inn is just a block from our home. It is a little quirky, but if you like old B&amp;Bs and quirky, then book here! Only 3 rooms of theirs have private bathrooms with showers. All other rooms have shared facilities. This would be a great option for larger families to book so you are then just sharing the bathroom with each other.

Historic Skagway Inn

This Inn is new! It is right in town and offers private bathroom accommodations.

The Pack Train Inn

This hotel is only 4 blocks from us, but it is not as nice as the others. It can also get loud with the attached bar. If you like to party, stay here!

Morning Wood Hotel

This is not a fancy place, but it is still a place to stay!

Vacation Time!

Since it is such a journey to come up here, we are hoping you make this into a vacation! Take a week (or more!) and explore our beautiful town and surrounding areas. Bring a PASSPORT. Most tours (but not all) require it as they often pass into Canada as it is so close. We are a tourist town and welcome as many as 4 cruise ships a day! This means that there are MANY activities to book with tour companies, restaurants, bars, and things to do. You also do not need a vehicle as this town is very small and flat, although surrounded by steep mountains. See some of the many options below. Please contact us prior to booking as we might try and organize some group tours or may have a discount code you can use.

Take the scenic and historic White Pass Train through stunning scenery with rich gold rush history. This is Rebecca's FAVORITE activity. Something not to miss! This is less than 3 hours, so it won't take up your whole day!

Take a trip on a helicopter up to a glacier and go dog mushing or just ride around for a couple of hours and see the gorgeous peaks surrounding our valley.

Skagway offers easy shoreline walks to steep mountain climbs. Lace up those hiking books and explore the surrounding areas. Beerdsly and Rebecca would be happy to hike with you!

Take a Hike on One of Our Many Trails

We live in a National Park! Wow! Stop by their visitor center and learn about the town's history as well as tours the park has to offer.

Go to a 45 minute Can-Can show that has been performed for 100 years! Set during the lawless days of the Klondike Gold Rush, watch a high- kickin’, titillatin’, rip – roarin’ story about Skagway’s most notorious outlaw – Soapy Smith. With glitzy musical numbers, bedazzling can- can dancers and riotous humor. There are 4 shows a day, and tickets are $28 for adults and $16 for children. Yes, this is a family friendly show!

See a Can-Can Show

Visit the Red Onion Saloon, a building that used to function as a bar and brothel back in the goldrush! They have drinks and food, but the best attraction is the the 20 minute, $20, "Quickie" brothel tour. Learn about the ladies of the night, see their artifacts, and go back in time. The Red Onion also offers various town tours where one of their "Madams" escorts you around town on a fun and interactive tour!

The Skagway Recreation Center has a skate park, an indoor basketball court, indoor climbing wall, cardio and weight equipment, as well as daily classes - all included in your pass purchase. Grab a day pass for $10 or a week pass for $30.

This is a far away land, and we will help you get your bearings straight by providing some maps. The main part of Skagway is about 1.2 flat miles, all with sidewalks. The main Historic part of town, with all the attractions and where are home is located, is not even a half mile, walkable by boardwalks!

Our Home is located on the corner of 8th &amp; Broadway. From 1st to 23rd is only 1.2 miles, and from 1st to 8th is where all the tourist stuff is, including restaurants and grocery store. Click on the map for an expanded view

Sometimes new things come up each year, and sometimes things disappear, but this is a pretty solid list.

What are some of our recommendations?

Breakfast, Coffee & Pastries

Glacial Coffehouse: Has indoor seating. Offers coffees, smoothies and other cold beverages as well as a large breakfast and lunch menu. Cafe on 5th: Tiny spot with no seating, but has a delicious small selection of sweet and savory treats as well as coffees. We recommend the Chorizo Croissant. Lucy's Bakery: Tiny spot with no seating, but offers a wide selection of sweet and savory treats. Drip coffee and sodas available. Do yourself a favor and get a BIG cookie. Ckilkoot Dining Room @ Westmark Hotel: Upscale sitdown dining with a buffet. Don't let "upscale" make you think it is more expensive than other places or that you have to dress up... everything is expensive and casual in Alaska! We consider what they offer as fairly priced.

Lunch/Dinner

Glacial Coffeehouse: Has indoor seating. Get smoothies, coffees, and lunch sandwiches. We love the Tony Soprano sandwich! NOT OPEN FOR DINNER Woadie's: Outdoor Covered Seating. Amazing seafood. Best fries in town! Offers wine and beer. StarFire Food Truck: Delicious Thai food. HUGE portions. Outdoor, uncovered, seating. Warning, level 2 spicy is pretty spicy! Peppers Food Truck: Mexican style food. Big portions. Outdoor, uncovered, seating. Skagway Fish Company: Cool spot by the docks with indoor and covered outdoor seating. Has a great selection of seafood dishes and regular dishes. Offers wine and beer. The Sation Bar and Grill: Pub type food with a full bar. Rebecca loves their wings and cheesy bread! Skagway Brewing Company: Pub type food along with their locally crafted beer and a full bar. Beerdsly loves their burgers!

Bars

Elks &amp; Eagles: You have to be a member of these National clubs or you can't go on your own. Not a member but wanting a taste of the local atmosphere? We will take you with us! We are allowed to bring guests :) Happy Endings Saloon: This is attached to The Station and Morning Wood Hotel. It is a full bar with pool tables and outdoor cornhole! Skagway Spirits: This is our local distillery. Enjoy a handcrafted cocktail in a quaint setting. Klondike Brewing: Enjoy local brews at this beautiful brewery, offering indoor and covered outdoor seating.

Restaurants/Bars

PASSPORT: Highly encouraged to bring your passport. Many tours, including the train, require it as the physical Canadian Border is only 7 miles away even though Canadian custom is farther. If you decide to make the short drive to the pass, you will go through US Customs, and you will be required to drive all the way to Canadian customs (which is AFTER the pass), to return back to US Customs.

You're coming to Alaska in the summer, which means long days, warm temps, cool temps, and the chance for rain. This means you gotta dress for anything. Wear whatever you’re comfortable in for the wedding - yes that includes jeans and a t-shirt!
