Logistics on the Wedding Day

The Venue - Stanway House

SHUTTLE PLANS - Leaving from outside Plaisterers Arms at 11:55!! If you’ve been asked to go on the first shuttle (family and grooms party) please make sure you are on the shuttle at 11:20!  The reception venue is located at Stanway House in the Tithe Barn, just a short walk from St Peter's church in Stanway (reminder - the church is in Stanway - not Winchcombe).   Stanway is a village located on the Northern side of the Cotswolds, halfway between the towns of Winchcombe and Broadway. (We would recommend staying in Winchcombe due to its proximity and accommodation availability - we have reserved some cottages in central Winchcombe, more info in 'Where to Stay' ).   We are putting on shuttles for all guests staying in Winchcombe, cottages or otherwise, to the church on the wedding day, as well as shuttles back to Winchcombe in the evening (confirmed if you would like the shuttle on RSVP).  The shuttles will leave at 11:50 and 12:15 from White Hart Inn. We will confirm timing but please make sure you’re at the White Hart by 12:10 at the latest so you don’t miss it!   If you are staying outside of Winchcombe, you would need to arrange your own travel to and from the venue. (parking is available at the venue, and cars can be left overnight).   Edit!! Uber has arrived just in time to Cheltenham, Gloucester and the Cotswolds!!

Getting to Winchcombe

By Train

The nearest train stations to Winchcombe are Cheltenham Spa (9 miles, 20 min drive), Evesham (11 miles, 20 min drive), and Moreton-in-Marsh (17 miles, 30 min drive). Cheltenham Spa is a 2 hour train journey from London Paddington, Evesham around 1 hour 45 minutes, and Moreton-in-Marsh 1 hour 30 minutes. You would then need to grab a short taxi from the train station . Note, Uber is now operating!

By Car

Winchcombe is around 100 miles from London, approximately a 2-hour drive. Note that generally accommodation may not include on-site parking, however there is a very reasonable car park in the town center. Otherwise street parking should be available.

By Plane

For those coming from Houston, there are direct flights from IAH to London Heathrow and Manchester airports. Both of these airports are well connected with frequent trains, and are similar distances from Winchcombe.

Winchcombe

Winchcombe is a small market town nestled in the Cotswolds, and is the closest town to the venue (4 miles).

We are organizing shuttles for all guests staying in Winchcombe to and from the wedding venue on Saturday. Let us know if you would like to be included in these shuttles during the RSVP process. Reserved Accommodation in Winchcombe

SHUTTLE PLANS - Leaving from outside Plaisterers Arms at 11:55!! If you’ve been asked to go on the first shuttle (family and grooms party) please make sure you are on the shuttle at 11:20! As Winchcombe is a small town with relatively limited accommodation, we have reserved a few cottages in central Winchcombe in advance (of varying occupancy - 6, 8, 10 and 14) to ensure there is local accommodation available for larger groups of guests. These cottages are priced at £225 (~$280) pp for 3 nights (Thursday 29th August - Sunday 1st September). We are also able to do 2 nights if that’s preferable for the majority of the group (this is only available for a couple of homes - most are minimum 3 nights). If you would like to stay in one of these, please tick the option during RSVP. We plan to keep friends and family groups together and will discuss with you in more detail about the cottage.   Update: Cottages have been allocated, please see below for a rough map of the cottage locations in relation to Winchcombe. We'll be in touch closer to the wedding date with check-in details.

Other Accommodation in Winchcombe

Although there are no large hotels in Winchcombe, there are a few quaint B&B's (see below) along with other options available on Airbnb and similar sites. We recommend reserving your accommodation as soon as possible as it’s quite likely these may sell out!  For those planning on just staying Saturday, we recommend figuring out your check-in options and plans as check in is likely between 3-9PM and we expect the pubs will be closed after 10PM (our wedding is not walking distance to Winchcombe).

Other Places to Stay Nearby

Outside of Winchcombe there are a number of other lovely towns and cities where you could stay nearby including Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Cheltenham.

Where to Stay

The Cotswolds is known for beautiful hikes, with designated trails including the Cotswolds Way, as well as the Winchcombe Way. For those looking to get their steps in, there's a nice 7-mile loop via Sudeley Castle and Hailes Abbey.

Hiking the Cotswolds

Less than 10 minutes walk from Winchcome Center lies Sudeley Castle and gardens, a 15th century castle and resting place of Catherine Parr (one of Henry VIII's many many wives..).

Winchcombe may not be known for it's late-night scene; however, there are a number of lovely local watering holes within stumbling distance, such as the Lion Inn, White Hart Inn, Plasterers Arms, and Corner Cupboard. Several of these also offer good food options.

Local Pubs

Enjoy a Heritage steam railway trip from Winchcombe to Broadway with lovely scenic Cotswolds views! Once you're in Broadway, it's a delightful place to spend the day pottering, with options for lunch, afternoon tea and museums. There's also a mile walk to the iconic Broadway Tower with beautiful views of the surrounding areas.

Steam Railway (to Broadway)

No trip to the Cotswolds is complete without a stop in Bourton-on-the-Water! Take a 20 minute uber/taxi/drive to one of the most popular and iconic little Cotswolds villages, equipped with a Model Village, Home of Brum (and a lot of other classical cars) as well as a lovely destination for a picnic or ice-cream alongside the River Windrush.

Cheltenham is the closest "big town", around 20 minutes drive. It's a nice place to explore, and will have a wider range of stores, bars and restaurants if you fancy escaping from the tranquil Cotswolds!
