Our love story began on the most beautiful campus on earth, Michigan State University. Our nerves were high as we headed into our first day of class, Writing 101. Little did we know we would be proofreading the papers of our future spouse. We remained friends through our first three years, playing intramural sports, studying for tests (we were both Marketing majors), and making awkward eye contact at basketball games as we cheered for our Spartans.
All the stars lined up during our last semester. Our first date was to a local brewery, where we acted like we weren't secretly falling in love. We continued to date and hang out with friends for the rest of our semester, only to finish up graduating side by side, singing our fight song loud and proud as we accepted our degrees.
After college, we moved to west Michigan where we continued falling deeper in love with each other and God. Our love for each other grew over playing Monopoly Deal at breweries (Holly is up 52 to 48 in their ongoing competition), watching sunsets over Lake Michigan, taking long walks in our neighborhood and so much more. Our love for God grew as we started attending church together and building our relationship around God.
Last summer, we packed up the car and headed to Twelve-Mile Beach for the MacLean annual camping trip. Little did Holly know that beneath the coolers, beach chairs, and s'more supplies was a ring.
Ben had Emily, Holly's sister, plan a family hike to to Chapel Rock at Pictured Rocks. The trek was a bit longer than expected, with babies on backs, little Lando falling in mud, and not enough snacks and water to go round. However, the hike took a turn when Ben got on one knee and asked Holly to be his wife. The peaceful sound of leaves rustling, water hitting the rocky shore, and birds chirping was interrupted by Holly's screaming of "BENJAMINNNNN" over and over. After a few hugs, kisses, photos taken, and deep breaths, we hiked back and celebrated at a local bar.
We plan to stay in the Grand Rapids area, where family is close, the beer is good, and lots of golf courses and beaches are close by.
