Global Entry Program Application Process

The U.S. Global Entry program

The U.S. Global Entry program is a Trusted Traveler program that allows expedited entry into the United States for pre-approved, low-risk travelers. Managed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), it streamlines the customs process for international travelers returning to the U.S.

Benefits of Global Entry:

Expedited Processing: Members can use automated kiosks at select airports, bypassing long lines at customs.

TSA PreCheck: Global Entry membership includes TSA PreCheck benefits, allowing for faster security screening at participating airports.

Reduced Wait Times: Members typically experience shorter wait times during re-entry to the U.S.

International Recognition: Global Entry is recognized by several countries, allowing for similar expedited processing in those nations.

Family Benefits: Children can be included in a family application, making travel easier for families.

Validity: Membership is valid for five years, offering long-term benefits for frequent travelers.

Overall, Global Entry is particularly beneficial for frequent international travelers looking to save time and streamline their airport experience.

The U.S. Global Entry program application process

To apply for Global Entry, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers, follow these steps:

1. Determine Eligibility

You must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, or a citizen of certain other countries (such as Canada, Argentina, India, and others). Check if your country is eligible at the official CBP website.

2. Create a Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) Account

- Go to the **Trusted Traveler Program website**: [ttp.dhs.gov](https://ttp.dhs.gov).

- Create an account by providing your email address and setting a password.

- You’ll need to create an account even if you're applying for Global Entry for a child.

3. Complete the Global Entry Application

- Log into your TTP account and start the Global Entry application.

- You’ll need to provide personal information, including your full name, birth date, citizenship, contact information, and address history for the past five years.

- You'll also need to disclose any criminal convictions, customs violations, or immigration violations.

4. Pay the Non-Refundable Application Fee (if purchase with your Capitol One Venture credit card you can be reimbursed)

- The Global Entry application fee is **$100** (non-refundable).

- This fee covers a five-year membership if your application is approved.

5. Wait for Conditional Approval

- After submitting your application and fee, CBP will review it.

- Processing times vary but generally take **4-6 months**.

- If approved, you’ll receive **conditional approval** through your TTP account, along with instructions to schedule an in-person interview.

6. Schedule an In-Person Interview

- After receiving conditional approval, schedule an interview at a **Global Entry Enrollment Center**.

- Locations are available at many U.S. international airports and select international locations.

- Wait times for interviews vary, so it’s best to book early.

7. Attend Your Interview

- Bring the following documents:

- **Conditional approval notice** (print or electronic copy).

- A valid **passport** or **permanent resident card**.

- Proof of **residency** (such as a driver's license or utility bill).

- During the interview, a CBP officer will verify your information, ask about your travel history, and take your fingerprints and photograph.

8. Receive Your Global Entry Card

- After a successful interview, your Global Entry membership will be activated.

- You’ll receive your Global Entry card in the mail within 7-10 business days.

- Activate your card by logging into your **TTP account** and following the instructions.

- **Note:** The Global Entry card is only necessary for land and sea travel, not air travel.

9. Use Global Entry
