We were both born in 1981, in two small towns in western Washington State (Carbonado and Buckley).

We met in Spanish class in high school (Gunner was pretty cool in high school; Beth...not so much).

We both grew up--mostly. Gunner became a teacher and a coach. Beth became an attorney and a land rights advocate.

And then in 2019...Gunner sent Beth a message on Facebook, to see if she would come speak to his students at Enumclaw High School. And they just kept talking.

This was our second date, to the "Enchant" holiday light show at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Our first date was a candlelight Christmas Eve service at St. Mark's Cathedral, after Beth made vegetarian risotto for dinner. Gunner was so hungry, but he stuck around.

We got to know each other and each other's families. We built some Lego sets.

Eventually, we decided living together sounded way better than living an hour apart (Gunner built himself a house in 2018).

And somewhere in southwestern Ireland last summer, we decided we wanted to just keep on growing old together. [Gunner definitely picked these flowers while driving on a very narrow road.]
