Homer is known for some of the best Halibut fishing in the world. If you want to catch a big one, or even just get out on the water, call North Country Halibut Charters and ask for Katherine Brennan.
The Salty Dawg Saloon was a cabin 157 years ago -- and now it's a rather eccentric local bar. Take a dollar bill to write a note on and tape to the wall (or ceiling). Smoking is still legal in certain bars in Homer.
If you have any interest in the numerous hikes, camping spots, or kayak routes that the breathtaking Kachemak Bay State Park offers -- check out Mako's Water Taxi in the transportation section for all of your water taxi needs.
If you want to be dropped off at one location in Kachemak Bay State Park and picked up at another for a hike or a paddle -- call Mako's. They'll take you where you want to go -- and pick you up, too. ;) If you want to get out there but don't quite know what -- they have a ton of information and suggestions to help you have an unforgettable experience. Mako's will rent Kayaks, too. Their taxi schedule is always fluctuating, so the more notice they have of your plans -- the better.
Amazing restaurant across the bay -- make reservations in advance for a tour on the Danny J, either early for a lunch sailing or afternoon for a dinner. ;) You will not regret this.
