It all started back in the good ol’ Wyoming town of Laramie. A lovely lady was just getting out of her night class and decided she was a little thirsty. So she headed down to the Student Union Beer Gardens to quench that parched mouth when she was stopped by an older fella working the front door. He checked her ID, and a little more, then she and Brooklyn went on in. Sitting at the door Blaine thought long and hard if he should go talk to her. After about two seconds of thinking (I know, long thought process), he grabbed another coworker behind the bar and told him he was now going to be working the door. This was his chance. He was pouring Mel a pint of Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout when she started talking about Harry Potter so it was now or never!
Mel must have seen seen something in that feller because every Thursday night after her class, she would return to the Gardens to find a cold glass of Nitro Milk Stout waiting upon her arrival. Eventually she stopped in more frequently until they were talking daily.
One night Blaine got a message to join Mel out at everyone’s most dreaded and loved bar in town... The Buckhorn... so he strolled out and the two had a wonderful evening. As they left the bar no one discussed which direction they were heading and just began to walk.. Blaine thought, “Holy cow is she coming to my house for a night cap?” Mel thought, "Is this guy following me home?” As they got to Blaine’s front door he said, “Well, this is me.” Mel laughed and kept walking... Two house down she stopped and said, “Well, this is me!”
The rest is history.
We have had the opportunity to grow and learn from each other every day since. Being away from family has its tricky moments but together we have been blessed with the love and care that each of us provide. We do darn near everything together and I couldn’t ask for a better partner in crime. Having adventures in the mountains of Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. Swimming in the lakes of Minnesota. Climbing all over the West. Buying property together here in Lander. Each day I feel fortunate to have this lady in my life and can't wait to marry her!
