Just arrived at Austin airport and are starving for some good TexMex? Or are you about to head out but want a quick bite that isn't airport food? This is our favorite TexMex joint right by the airport. Don't let looks deceive you - this place does not disappoint.
Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q
Veronika's from a different part of Texas (the Hill Country) and Rudy's is her favorite BBQ joint ever. There are a couple locations outside Austin - this one might be on your way up to Temple/Gatesville. Whichever one you pick, it will not disappoint.

Looking for some (more, hint hint) BBQ in Temple? This is one of our favorite family-owned joints in the area. They have two locations - one in Temple and one in Belton.
Schoepf's Bbq
Local BBQ joint in Belton that has won lots of awards! They do an interesting spin on TexMex BBQ - if you have time only to go to one place, this is where you could have it all - TexMex and BBQ in one place.

Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center
Veronika's really proud of her family's heritage - you might learn more about being Czech from talking to Veronika's grandmother or visiting one of the local Kolache/Czech pastry shops scattered around this part of Texas.
Bo's Barn Dancehall
Want to get your Two-Step on? The last Thursday of every month from 18:30-20:00 Bo's Barn Dance Hall has free dance lessons (not to mention karaoke follows shortly after). Those of you who may be coming in a little earlier in the week should check it out!
Hang out at Straight Ahead Ranch
Come on by Straight Ahead Ranch to check out the pool, shooting range, and the like - just give Veronika's folks a call.
Mother Neff State Park
Come to the park along the Leon River to unwind! You can hike, picnic, camp, and enjoy nature. Check out the wildflowers in the prairie and explore the canyon trails.

Texas is full of cool caverns! This is the closest one to the Temple area.
Buc-ee's
For whatever reason, Buc-ee's is an attraction for out-of-state folks. Those of you who know, know. For everyone else, this is just a fancy gas station with some top-notch Texan knick-knacks and food.
