Just like any metropolis in the world, there are safer areas than others. This is what we recommend: 1. Avoid driving in the city. Uber and public transportation are very affordable and safe. This will prevent you from being in the "wrong" locations in Rio. 2. Careful "Pick pockets": When in public, do not wear jewelry, place phone and money in a fanny pack (always small bags) and wear the fanny pack hidden under clothing. 3. Avoid using your cellphone in public areas. 4. Keep your windows rolled up whenever you're in a car. 5. Avoid taking yellow cabs, uber is the best and cheapest option for transportation. 6. Negotiate the price with everything. You can always get a better deal. 7. Don't tip at restaurants, price already includes the tip and employees get paid a fair wage. Our recommendation is to stay in the south zone of rio (Zona Sul). The best areas to stay are the neighborhoods of Ipanema, Copacabana, and Leblon. There are several hotels in Zona Sul, with different price ranges. We also recommend looking into airbnb as an option, you can find great stays at a reasonable price there. Drinks on Thursday are meant for showing you the city and cool bars in Rio prior to the wedding and the boat is a cruise around Rio as the wedding after party. We would love to offer these experiences to our guests, but it's definitely not mandatory. Please confirm with us which events you will be attending 1 month prior.
