High Altitude
Beaver Creek sits more than 8,000 feet above sea level, which can cause some guests to experience altitude sickness. This can affect anyone, regardless of fitness level or age. Common symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, and disrupted sleep. Staying hydrated is key! We also suggest fueling your body with healthy sugars and carbohydrates during the first day or two of your stay—this can make a big difference in how you feel. If possible, consider arriving a little early to give your body time to adjust. Most people feel back to normal after 24 hours.
Please also note that alcohol can have a stronger effect at high altitudes. To avoid overindulging, we recommend alternating alcoholic drinks with water—one drink at altitude is equivalent to two drinks at sea level!
