It all began with a swipe. He likes to say she left him hanging, unresponsive for hours. She likes to say that she was a strong, independent woman and had notifications turned off on her dating apps. Either way, after their first date, on February 6, 2020, the rest was history. They were soulmates.

Being a new relationship at the start of COVID, their relationship progressed quickly. The world was essentially on lock down; restaurants, bars and theatres were closed. Social distancing was in full force. So they spent hours talking - in person, texting, on the phone. Date nights were intimate and without social distraction. Just her & him. They binge watched episodes of “The Office” and the more they laughed together, the more she realized that she had found the Jim to her Pam.

He tricked her into saying ‘I love you first’. He was walking her out to her car and was teasing her, as per usual. He said “oh, you know you love me” and she responded “of course I love you” … to which he said NOTHING. CRICKETS. She got into her car and essentially had a panic attack. She had known for months that she had been in love with him, but even when she got drunk at his grad party AND her grad party, she was able to hold it in! She panicked until she saw him again the next day when she couldn’t take it anymore and called him out on it. He looked at her so innocently and said, “didn’t I say it back? … I said it in my head”. Then he grabbed her, kissed her and said, “Baby, I love you too.” And from then on, they were, as he liked to call it, “Locked In”.

Soon after they were living together, and then their little family grew by one when he bought her their baby Winnie. For years they laughed, loved and built a life together, just the three of them. Then, on May 5, 2023, in Banff next to a waterfall, he got down on one knee and asked her to be his forever. And of course, she said yes (although he likes to remind her that she made him ask twice because she didn’t respond the first time. Can you blame a girl? She was in shock - and she kissed him, which she said counted as a yes).
