FOOD & ENTERTAINMENT

Picture of FOOD & ENTERTAINMENT

BARS:
Axelrad: One of our favorite hangouts, Axelrad is a laid-back beer garden in the middle of Midtown. Their claim to fame is their fun outdoors area where they have multiple hammock swings and seats. Enjoy a slice of pizza from Luigi’s next door while you’re there!

13 Celcius: The best wine bar in the city, located in midtown. Order the s’mores or Affagato for dessert!

We also love Holman's, Woosters, Stones Throw, and Anvile Bar & Refuge, among others.

Houston is also home to several breweries, including 8th Wonder, St. Arnolds, and The Holler, just to name a few.

COFFEE/BRUNCH:
Retrospect: An old gas station converted to a coffee shop serves up a delicious selection of sweet and savory crepes. Students, teachers, and those who walk there get a 5% discount.

Blackhole: Try the nitro cold brew coffee and deep-dish quiche at this loungy coffee shop.

Tout Suite: A cafe in east downtown with a cool urban-industrial vibe, a great breakfast menu, and lots of beautiful delicate pastries.

Common Bond Cafe & Bakery: Here you will find a wide assortment of breads and pastries as well as breakfast and lunch options. Worth a visit for the croissants alone!

Luna y Sol: A small mom-and-pop Mexican joint in Midtown serving some of our favorite tacos in Houston. We highly suggest their breakfast tacos!

Snooze A.M.: Located in the trendy neighborhood of Montrose, this brunch joint has a large menu of fun recipes and an excellent brunch cocktail list. Be prepared for a long wait. We highly recommend the benedicts!

RESTAURANTS (Disclaimer: Most of these are Mexican. What can we say?)
Tacos A Go Go: A great lunch spot with several traditional and tex-mex tacos. You can take the lightrail from the hotel to get here. Pop into Double Trouble afterward for some afternoon coffee or a coffee cocktail if you’re feeling fancy!

Local Foods: A trendy restaurant with some of the best sandwiches, soups, and salads around- all made from fresh, local ingredients. This is Caitlin’s favorite lunch place.

El Tiempo: If you're in the mood for fajitas, you MUST go here!

The Original Ninfa’s: A longstanding Mexican restaurant with delicious margaritas and house-made tortillas.

El Real: A great tex-mex joint in Montrose. We recommend the chile relleno!

The Pit Room: Texas-style barbecue at its finest!

Aladdin: This is an outstanding, casual mediterranean joint in Montrose. You choose your main and have the option of several sides. We recommend the babaganoush, tabouli, and lamb kabobs. This is another of Caitlin's favorites!

There are so many restaurants in Houston, it’s hard to go wrong!

ACTIVITIES:
Hermann Park: This park contains McGovern Centennial Gardens where we’re getting married. It also contains a golf course, walking/running trails, a Japanese Garden, a large playground, a train, paddle boats, the zoo, an amphitheater and more! It’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors in the city.

Buffalo Bayou Park: One of the city's best green spaces that has excellent views of the Houston skyline. It contains tributaries, sculptures, running and biking trails, a skate park, a playground, and more. You can also rent bikes and kayaks at the park. Visit https://buffalobayou.org/visit... for more information.

Museums: Houston has an entire district devoted to museums, including The Museum of Natural Science, The Holocaust Museum, The Houston Children’s Museum, and The Museum of Fine Arts, among others. You can even visit the National Museum of Funeral History! The NASA Space Center is just outside the city loop.

Graffiti Park: Truly a must see! Go grab a cup of coffee and take in some urban graffiti art! This is a fun place to take pictures and enjoy some urban art. Located at 1503 Chartres Street or 2102 Leeland Street and surrounding.
