2/20 Communication
HELLO TO OUR AMAZING FRIENDS & FAMILY!!
We are less than THREE WEEKS away and are SO EXCITED to get to be with you all in the beautiful Ocho Rios, Jamaica to celebrate!! We wanted to take this time to email out some final reminders, key information, weekend plans, and to pass along how we will communicate with everyone during the wedding weekend! This email is long - sorry in advance. But all the info is super important so please try to read all of it!!
Caitlin & Barry's Weekend Plans
This is y'alls vacation too, and we want you to enjoy it how you see fit! If, however, you'd like to join Barry & I in what we're doing throughout the weekend, we wanted to give a heads up of our weekend schedule! For the things noted as TBD on location, we will be letting everyone know via our weekend communication system! (see next section)
Wednesday 3/8
- Caitlin & Barry (C&B) arrive in the afternoon- not joinable
- C&B head to the Beaches resort to spend time with their niece & nephew - not joinable
- C&B have a private dinner with their parents - not joinable
Thursday 3/9
- C&B meet with their wedding planner in the morning - not joinable
- C&B hang around the resort and greet guests as they arrive - will be very casual and go with the flow because we hope to get to see every guest and give you a special welcome gift, so locations will vary as we move around! Likely hanging around the main beach area while waiting for people - joinable!
- C&B have dinner - location TBD based on reservation availability - joinable!
- C&B have post-dinner drinks somewhere seaside - location TBD and will be decided likely day of - joinable!
Friday 3/10
- C&B hit up the party pool on Hillside! Will be there from roughly 11-3 - joinable & highly encouraged!
- C&B + wedding party *hopefully* have a rehearsal in the afternoon. The wedding location is right next to the pool, so this would be very casual and during the 11-3 window - joinable!
- C&B + all wedding guests attend welcome cocktail hour - presently planned for the beach, but might be changed to the main dock. If the location changes we will let everyone know! - main wedding event!
- C&B have dinner - location TBD based on reservation availability - joinable!
- C&B have post-dinner drinks somewhere seaside - location TBD and will be decided likely day of - joinable!
Saturday 3/11
- C&B with wedding party preparing for the day - not joinable
- Wedding ceremony at the Roman Gazebo which is on hillside starting promptly at 4pm - recommended arrival time 3:45. Will need to take a shuttle from seaside to hillside - main wedding event!
- Cocktail hour from 5-6 at the manor terrace (right next to the ceremony) - main wedding event!
- Reception from 6-10 at the manor lawn (right next to the cocktail hour) - main wedding event!
- C&B at the after party at the Rabbit Hole Speakeasy (right next to the reception) & then at the Ocean Beach Bar (seaside next to the hotel) from 10-1 - joinable!
Sunday 3/12
- C&B head out to dolphin swimming and then their honeymoon early in the day - thank you all for coming!!! - not joinable
Weekend Communication
Since not everyone will have cell service while we are in Jamaica (but there is wifi across the entire resort!), we wanted to find a way to be able to communicate with all of y'all throughout the weekend as things come up. Our solution to this is by creating a Facebook Group, where we'll be able to post updates, have created events for the main things throughout the weekend, and anyone can ask any questions. I know for some of us, Facebook has not been used in a while... but please for this weekend only, reactivate those FBs and join!! This will be the easiest way for us to send key messages with everyone, as individual text messages with all of our guests won't be possible during the weekend. Feel free to change your notification settings to only be for posts from Barry & I if you don't want to see questions from others, and please only post in the group when you have a question that applies to at least a majority of people. Individual questions should be sent to Barry & I directly, and general posts of excitement (while we love!) should be refrained from being posted so as to limit the number of notifications for people. You can join the group by clicking this link. Note: Facebook group links apparently expire after 2 days, and only allow 20 people at a time to join using them... annoying. So if you go to click on this after 2 days, or if when you click on it it gives you an error (due to too many people having already used it), just shoot us a message and we can invite you to the group directly and/or start a new link. Final Reminders/Key Information
Below please find some additional reminders/key information for the weekend!
Ceremony Details:
- At the end of the ceremony as C&B exit and walk back down the aisle, we are asking our guests to blow bubbles! On each seat at the ceremony there will be bubbles to be used for this, and our officiant will remind guests prior to as well. This is just a heads up!
- The wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception are all hillside, while our hotel is seaside. You will need to take a shuttle between sides of the resort, so make sure to plan for this when considering timing! The shuttles come every 10 minutes, and it takes about 5-8 minutes to get from one side to the other.
- We anticipate the ceremony ending at ~4:30pm, but our cocktail hour won't begin until 5pm. During this time we recommend our guests take pictures, mingle about the ceremony area, and grab drinks at the Polo Lounge in the Manor House (right next door) or the Great House Pool Bar! Extended family members should anticipate taking family portraits with C&B during this time - we will be sending a photo list order closer to the weekend so you know when you'll be pulled in!
- The ceremony location (Roman Gazebo) is right next to the Great House Pool Bar & the Polo Lounge Bar - we highly encourage and welcome guests to grab a drink at either location to have to sip on during the ceremony - let's get the party started early!
- Our ceremony will be "unplugged", which means we ask that you please keep phones and cameras away during this time. Photos at the cocktail hour and reception are welcomed and encouraged! We have photographers and videographers that will capture the entire ceremony as well as the cocktail hour and reception, and we will share those all with you through the Google Photos album! In case you didn't see on the 'Photos' page of our wedding website, we are asking that all of our guests upload all of their pictures from the weekend to this album so that we all have access to all photos!
Welcome Cocktail Party
Presently the location of our welcome cocktail party on Friday night is the Riviera Beachfront, but we are attempting to change this to the main dock. This can't be confirmed until C&B arrive on resort. Once we know the location for sure, we will post this in the Weekend Facebook Page, and you will also get a delivered itinerary to your room.
Transportation to Resort
As stated in prior communication, the resort offers complimentary transportation to and from the airport. You can also choose to purchase a private car transfer here for $225 each way if you would like. With the complimentary transportation, however, we want to give you a heads up of what to expect! You will be on a small bus with other guests, and they will make a "bathroom stop" at about the halfway point. We put bathroom stop in quotations, because at least when Barry & I were there, a big purpose of this stop was for the driver to be able to subtly sell marijuana to anyone on the bus who was interested. If this doesn't bother you and/or if purchasing some marijuana for the weekend sounds like something you're interested in (when in Jamaica!) then you're all good! If you'd prefer the private transfer, we assume this stop is likely not a part of the process.
Dress Code
Per our Q+A page, the dress code for the wedding is semi-formal/cocktail attire. Ladies should wear cocktail dresses and gentlemen should wear a dress shirt and slacks, with tie and jacket optional. We also request that all ladies avoid white or cream dresses throughout the weekend!
Tipping
Tipping while on resort is strictly prohibited, so you don't need to worry about this while on resort! The transportation to and from resort, however, and any additional external parties (the spa, booked external activities, etc.) are not run by the resort, and so tipping is a typical practice. You can either exchange for Jamaica dollars at the airport or before leaving, or they will accept USD (C&B tipped their drivers with USD when in Jamaica last year!).
Resort Shuttle
The resort is split into two halves, separated by a main road in Ocho Rios (kind of like Huntington Avenue - shoutout Northeastern!). You cannot walk between the two halves, and have to take a shuttle between the two. Make sure to take this into consideration when planning travel between the two halves, including on wedding day!
