Colombia is a beautiful country and is internationally-recognized as one of the happiest countries in the world. It is also known for its delicious food and richness in nature and biodiversity.
The capital of Colombia is Bogota, DC. Bogota is one of the biggest cities in Latin America, with a population of over 7 million people.
The events of our wedding weekend will take place in Bogota, and the wedding ceremony and reception will be in an estate about 1-2 hours (27 miles) outside the city.
How is the weather in Bogota, Colombia?
Bogota is located in the Andes mountains at a median height of 2600 m or 8600 ft above sea level. For this reason, even though Colombia is in the equator, the weather in Bogota is not tropical. Some may feel the effects of altitude sickness for the first few days.
Temperature is consistently around highs of 66F and lows of 46F in Feb. (8-19 C). Expect somewhat cloudy weather, and occasional rain, but otherwise dry conditions. Most people wear pants with light sweaters and jackets.
What language is spoken in Colombia?
Colombia is a Latin America country, where the official language is Spanish. You may encounter some people who speak English specially in the big cities, but it is not very common.
Is Colombia a safe country to visit?
Like any large city, Bogota has its beautiful, safe areas, and other areas that are not so nice.
Practice common sense. Consider not wearing flashy jewelry or clothing, and keeping your valuables with you at all times. Keep your valuable items in a safe space. As we say in Colombian slang " no dar papaya", which means be smart and do not call attention to yourself.
