Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site explores the cultural interplay among the diverse peoples along the famed Bayou Teche. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1847 epic poem Evangeline made people around the world more aware of the 1755 expulsion of the Acadians from Nova Scotia and their subsequent arrival in Louisiana. In this area, the story was also made popular by a local novel based on Longfellow's poem, Acadian Reminiscences: The True Story of Evangeline, written by Judge Felix Voorhies in 1907.
The Museum of the Acadian Memorial, in conjunction with the Acadian Memorial, tells the story of the Acadians and their life here in South Louisiana. It houses the Acadian Odyssey Quilt, a work of art that represents the aspects of life in Colonial Louisiana that transformed the Acadians into the Cajuns of today.
Camille's absolute favorite part of this museum is all of the Cajun family crests!
You can't leave Lafayette without getting the best poboy out there at Olde Tyme Grocery! James' go to is a shrimp poboy.
Best Cajun food in town! Camille's parents went on a date here every Friday night and eventually had their rehearsal dinner at Don's. This restaurant is near and dear to our hearts! Camille's go to entree is the Catfish Acadian.
When exploring downtown Lafayette, make sure to check out this old school soda parlor! Whether you want a sweet treat or a classic hamburger, this is the place to go! James' loves to get a coca-cola here, while Camille enjoys their dairy-free affogato.
