In the early 1900s, Vernon, NY was home to many sawmills, gristmills, canneries, and distilleries. Thanks to the flow of the Skanandoa Creek for power and major rail service, the area blossomed. Wards Canning Company, located at 1 Ward Street, is one block from the heart of what was the historic business area. Mr. Ward invented the first bean harvester and was of great influence to the local community. It’s been years since the renowned company closed its doors, but in 2016 local wedding professionals envisioned great potential for the classic design of the facility and decided to give it new life. Today, The Cannery is a modern, climate-controlled wedding venue that is unlike any other venue in Central New York. This year-round, industrial and rustic venue is becoming a popular wedding space in upstate New York.
