What should I wear?
"Island resort casual" attire is appropriate for our day! This generally means lightweight breathable fabrics such as linens and cotton, flowy lightweight dresses, collared shirts, and a light jacket for cooler evenings and air-conditioned spaces.
We highly recommend comfortable shoes - boat/deck shoes, smaller heels or flats, etc. and we encourage you to bring a jacket/sweater/shawl for the evening as it is likely to get chilly later in the day.
For those with long hair, we recommend planning to wear your hair up, or bring a hair tie/clip with you to secure your hair throughout the day, as needed.
Oh, and don't forget the sunscreen! :)
How do I get to the wedding?
The most common way to get to the island is by ferry. Once you are on the island, the most common forms of transportation are car and bus. We have provided more information on ferry and travel options over on the Travel page of our website, so be sure to check that out!
So, you are planning to have your ceremony onboard a tall ship on the ocean. What if the weather is bad?
At this time, we are planning to have our ceremony onboard the tall ship Shenandoah, and will follow that with a 2-hour sail celebratory sail around Vineyard Sound. If the weather, for any reason, is not going to cooperate to make for this to be an overwhelmingly positive experience for all (i.e. rough sea state, rain, excessive wind) then we will change plans and have our ceremony at our back up location. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather though!
How do I know if I am invited to the ceremony?
Due to the restricted capacity allowances onboard the tall ship (dictated by the United States Coast Guard), we are limited as to how many guests we are able to invite to our ceremony.
Everyone will receive a "Save Our Date" card! Those who are invited to the ceremony onboard the tall ship and reception, and those who will be invited to the reception only will be informed via the official wedding invitations that will be sent out in early 2024.
When and where can I RSVP?
An RSVP link will be made available on our website once our formal wedding invitations are sent out in early 2024, so be sure to check back here then! More information on how to RSVP will also be included with your invitation.
I have been invited to the ceremony onboard the tall ship, but I am prone to sea/motion sickness. What should I do?
If you have been invited to join us for our ceremony onboard the tall ship Shenandoah, but you are someone who tends to experience sea/motion sickness easily, we lovingly recommend that you join us for the reception only. If you are usually able to manage your sea/motion sickness by wearing nausea relief wristbands or patches, or by taking anti-nausea medicine, then we would love for you to join us! We simply ask that you use your best discretion when making this decision as it will be more fun for all of us if everyone onboard feels in tip-top shape!
Should I stay overnight on the island? If so, where should I stay?
We have set up a room block at the Mansion House Inn in Vineyard Haven for the nights of June 21st and June 22nd, 2024, should you wish to stay on the island - visit our Accommodations page for more details!
If you would like to stay on the island but would rather stay elsewhere, this is no problem! There are ample Airbnbs, hotels, inns, etc. all over the island. We just highly encourage you to book your rooming reservations well in advance because things tend to book up fast on the island!
If you would rather come for just the day you can absolutely do so! The first ferries to and from the island leave around 6 AM and the last ferries to and from the island depart around 10 PM. The Vineyard Haven ferry terminal is two *small* blocks from the Black Dog Tavern where our reception will be, so it is very easy to come over to the island for just the day. In fact, you can sit in the tavern at our reception, watch your ferry pull in and unload, and then walk over to the ferry and hop on! It really is that close, we promise :)
