The short version is: Alex and Carmen met in their college library.
But the longer version, for those so inclined, is below.
Alex and Carmen both attended the University of St. Thomas and participated in the honors program. Members of the program had access to a private lounge with free printing and, since this was one of the only perks, everyone took advantage of it.
Carmen was a board member, and all board members had their photos hanging in the lounge. One day, Alex came to the lounge, noticed Carmen's photo, and wondered if he'd ever run into her.
As luck would have it, a few days later, Carmen was in charge of hosting an event for the program at the library. To advertise the event, she had to take over the school Snapchat, introduce herself, and talk about the event. Alex saw the Snapchat and went to the library to meet her. At the event, Alex struck up a conversation with Carmen and played it cool. So cool, that she thought he wasn't interested.
Thankfully, Alex followed up by adding Carmen on Facebook. In his very first message, he asked Carmen who her favorite author was. When she told him it was Kurt Vonnegut, Alex went out and bought the first Vonnegut book he could find, just to have something to talk to her about.
Eight years and six states later, they're making it official (again)!
