Q + A

We will be having a Quaker-style wedding ceremony. What is that?

A Quaker-style wedding ceremony aims to emphasize a community coming together to support two individuals joining in union. Together, we will take part in a silent reflection. During this time, we invite guests to share a few words of advice or support, or read a short passage or poem if they feel compelled. Part of the significance of this quiet reflection is that we are simply gathered together, so please do not feel you have an expectation to speak. If you decide to share (and we would love it if you do!), please be mindful of your time so that others have the opportunity to speak as well. After, the bride and groom will exchange promises.

What is the wedding attire?

For the ceremony and reception, the attire is dressy casual. Think a button-down and slacks with an optional jacket or a festive dress/jumpsuit with low block heels/wedges (grass is soft; gravel is precarious) or flats. Above all, feel free to look cute, comfy, and ready to dance!

Wedding Day Shuttle Information

For the wedding event on Saturday, a 14-passenger shuttle van will be making a loop between Albert’s Lodge and the Celo Health Center to pick up guests. The shuttle will drop any guests that need a ride to the same locations at the end of the night.

Pick-Up Schedule:

3:15 - Albert’s Lodge

3:30 - Celo Health Center

3:45 - Albert’s Lodge

4:00 - Albert’s Lodge

What should I pack?

Celo is in the mountains! That means it is usually cooler in the mornings and evenings, so pack LAYERS. There also may be some chances of afternoon or evening showers that come and go. Temperatures around this time of year are usually in the mid-70s/mid-80s during the day and get into the 50s at night. Make sure to pack good walking/hiking shoes, water shoes, and your swimsuit and towel! Pack a water bottle and headlamp or flashlight, as well.

Should I pick up any snacks or groceries on my way to Celo?

Yes! There will be a casual BBQ dinner provided at Thursday July 4th's Welcome Dinner and Drinks, as well as a boxed lunch for Friday July 5th's Activity Day for whoever requested one in their RSVP, but Celo is located about 25 minutes from the nearest large grocery store. South Toe General Store has some necessities and camping supplies, but it has a limited selection. Please stock up on snacks, alcohol, breakfast items, or any personal necessities -- we wouldn't want you to get hangry in between meals!

When should I arrive?

We will have Welcome Drinks with casual BBQ dinner on Thursday July 4th with a day full of outdoor activities on Friday July 5th. That being said no official wedding activities will happen until Friday evening. Join us for as much as you'd like and can.

Are children invited?

To allow all guests to relax and enjoy themselves, we have chosen to make our ceremony and reception adults only. Children are welcome at all other wedding weekend events! We thank you for your understanding.

Why does everything say Burnsville? I thought the wedding was in Celo?!

Celo (pronounced SEE-low) is a super small community. On all mailing addresses, it will say Burnsville, which is the largest town closest to the community, about 25 minutes away.

I'm planning to arrive even earlier than July 4th! What recommendations do you have for me?

Hooray for you! Arriving July 2nd or 3rd (or even earlier) means you get the opportunity to experience Western NC fireworks! Penland School of Craft has a handmade parade and fireworks and Mount Mitchell Golf Course also has a fireworks display -- our favorite is Penland!
