While there are an unlimited amount of things to do in San Diego, these are some of Caroline and Scott's favorites! Most of these are dog friendly, if you can't tell :)
The San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park, just north of downtown San Diego. The zoo was a pioneer in the concept of open-air, cage-less exhibits that recreate natural animal habitats. This zoo is world renown! Dogs aren't allowed in the zoo, so we often walk the park with Rudder.
Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre park stretching along the Pacific Ocean bordering the western edge of Point Loma. Scott surfs the cliffs and takes Rudder often.
Caroline and Scott visit OB dog beach frequently with Rudder - its our favorite place to be. Dog beach gets very busy on weekends but its full of entertainment. Its also just a 10min walk to the OB strip, which is filled with breweries and other unique places.
This 2.3-mile boardwalk is a young and bustling area, lined with cool shops, bars, and restaurants. Whenever friends visit, a bike ride down the boardwalk is a must! There are plenty of bike rental options in Mission and Pacific Beach right on the boardwalk. Be sure to also visit Beach House which is a bar on the beach where Scott and Caroline met.
Pacific Beach (PB) is a relaxed neighborhood by the beach, popular with sunbathers and surfers. Trendy hotel bars and casual cafes line the boardwalk, while Mission Boulevard and the surrounding streets are dotted with boutiques, yoga studios, and casual drinking spots that draw a young, bar-hopping crowd. Scott and Caroline both lived in PB when they met and quickly learned they were actually next door neighbors! Caroline walks Rudder in PB each Friday night to get ice cream at Mister Frosties.
San Diego Bay is a natural harbor and deepwater port in San Diego. It's filled with big boats - old and new, including the Midway! Rudder enjoys sightseeing the harbor but still prefers being on a boat and jumping for his ball.
The La Jolla Sea Caves are a group of seven sea caves in La Jolla that are considered a natural wonder. When guests visit, this is another must see! There are plenty of kayak rentals within La Jolla Shores, which is steps from the water, that offer tour and non-tour rentals. It's then a short paddle over to the cliffs where you'll see seals, garibaldi (gold fish!), and more.
The Hotel Del Coronado is famous! The hotel is a grand example of elegant Victorian architecture and is one of the most beautiful and popular beach resorts. If you're wanting to feel fancy, go grab a drink at their beach side bar and enjoy all the people watching. Hot tip! There's also a gorgeous dog beach just up the street if you're wanting to get some mutt time in.
