We've assembled a list of hotel recommendations, including one hotel (with discounted rooms!) closest to the wedding venue, across our favorite parts of town!
The areas we recommend staying in to maximize your San Diego experience include Shelter Island, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, Downtown San Diego, or Old Town.
We recommend booking your hotel accommodations as soon as possible as July in San Diego will be a very busy time of the year.
Humphrey's Half Moon Bay Inn is a 5min walk from Bali Hai, where the ceremony and reception will be occurring. It's positioned on Shelter Island which has stunning views of the San Diego skyline and long walking paths along the water. It's a 10min walk to restaurants and shops.
The bride and groom will be staying here.
Stay here if you want to: be close to the venue, spend time on the water (tours on tours!), want to see boats.
Located on the beach in the heart of Ocean Beach (OB), you'll be within walking distance of boutiques, restaurants, bars, and - our favorite - Dog Beach. Caroline and Scott lived in OB between 2019-2021. This hotel is a 15min car ride to Bali Hai.
Stay here if you want: the hippie/laid back experience, breweries, people watching.
Ocean Park Inn is in the heart of Pacific Beach (PB) right on the boardwalk, which gets you easy walking and bike access to restaurants, bars, and the beaches. The hotel is just south of Crystal Pier where Caroline and Scott have visited frequently for the views! Caroline and Scott met in Mission Beach (MB) at Beach House, which is a 35min walk down the boardwalk in case you're wanting to get some movement in. Caroline and Scott lived in PB between 2015-2019. This hotel is a 20min car ride to Bali Hai.
Stay here if you want to: go to the beach, talk long walks along the water, rent bikes, eat with a view, people watch.
The Marriott is in the heart of the downtown Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. The Gaslamp is a buzzing area loaded with restaurants, shops, and is directly next to PETCO Park (where the SD Padres play!) and the SD Convention Center. The people watching is unmatched and you can also get a nice glimpse into PETCO Park via the Marriott's rooftop Altitude or the nearby Fairweather restaurant. Caroline and Scott enjoy riding their bikes through the city or taking Rudder to experience comic-con (which will be in late July!). The infamous San Diego Zoo is also a short ride from downtown! This hotel is a 22min car ride to Bali Hai.
Stay here if you want to: get the city experience, attend a ballgame, visit the zoo, see huge yachts, take long walks along the harbor.
Old Town is a festive neighborhood with attractions that reflect its Mexican roots. Reconstructed homes and craft shops in 1800s-era Mission-style buildings fill Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, while vibrant Mexican restaurants feature boisterous happy hours and live mariachi music. Scott and Caroline love going to Casa Del Reyes for dinner and margs.
Stay here if you want: authentic Mexican food, to be central and have easy access to freeways to visit other areas of San Diego (like the La Jolla seals or the Wild Animal Park).
