If you have time, we highly recommend visiting the top of the Washington Monument to enjoy the best view in the city. Tickets are required to enter the Washington Monument. Reserve tickets online for a $1 fee or get free, same day tickets at the Washington Monument Lodge. Tickets are limited and advance reservations are strongly recommended.

Spend an afternoon at the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson Building to take in its magnificent 19th-century architecture and changing exhibitions. As the largest library in the world, it offers historical treasures and photographs documenting America.


Open Tuesdays - Saturdays 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. with free timed-entry passes required at https://loc.gov/visit. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

Smithsonian Castle

The Smithsonian Institution, which includes museums, research centers, and education centers, is by far one of the best parts of visiting Washington, DC. In fact, it has 21 libraries, 19 museums, nine research centers, and a zoo.


When you visit the Smithsonian, you’re entering the world’s largest museum complex, with approximately 157 million artifacts and specimens in its trust for the American people. All are free and open to the public 9am to 5pm, and most museums line the perimeter of the national mall.


If you ask us, the best are the National Portrait Gallery, National Gallery of Art, Natural History Museum, American History Museum and the Air and Space Museum.
