Our Story

Carrie and Big grew up together in the streets of New York City. They were classmates at a prestigious high school in Manhattan, where Carrie, a sophomore, and Big, a senior, shared the same hallways and classrooms. Because we knew each other from growing up we did not have a Shadchan. A Shadcan is a family member, a friend, or a professional matchmaker. Regardless of the person's identity, as they facilitate the matchmaking process, they are commonly referred to as a shadchan (שדכן). In certain Jewish communities, marriages continue to be arranged through a shadchan, with a fee typically paid to professional matchmakers. However, the practice of utilizing a matchmaker is not inherently Jewish or traditional. (Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, Made In heaven pp. 22-23)

Their paths crossed one day when Carrie accidentally bumped into Big in the crowded school cafeteria. With an apologetic smile, their eyes met for the first time. In that moment, something sparked between them, though neither of them realized it at the time.

As they navigated their high school years, Carrie and Big found themselves drawn to each other time and time again, despite their differences in age and social circles. Their friendship blossomed into something deeper.

Years passed, and life took them on separate paths after high school. Carrie pursued her dreams of becoming a writer, while Big went into business. Yet, their connection lingered. It wasn't until years later, when Carrie and Big found their way back to each other and confirmed they were Beshert which means "the destined one". And from that moment on, they knew that they were meant to be together. Months later we got engaged and had a L'chaim to celebrate that night!
