Things to Do

Waimea Canyon State Park

Picture of Waimea Canyon State Park
Waimea, HI 96796, USA
(808) 274-3444

Drive along the rim of the "grand canyon of the Pacific" and enjoy amazing views of both the coastline and the canyon from the rim. Park and hike into the canyon along Canyon Trail to Waipo'o Falls with a picnic lunch (The hike involves a steep descent into the canyon - be prepared, wear good shoes and bring water!). No park entry fee, but parking fee is required onsite if you stop.

Mountain Tubing

3-4131 Kuhio Hwy, Lihue, HI 96766, USA
(855) 846-0092

Float down former plantation canals on an inner tube, including through several underground tunnels. We booked this activity in 2023 and found it very relaxing after spending all day hiking the day before. The tour guides serve a sandwich picnic lunch after tubing is complete.

Ha'ena State Park

(808) 274-3444

*Reservations required and open 30 calendar days prior to the reservation date*. Very limited parking is available, but you can also reserve a shuttle ride into the State Park. The Park has a beautiful beach roughly .5 miles from the shuttle drop-off, but the main attraction is the hiking trail along the Na Pali coast. Hike 2.5 miles to another beach, then turn inland and hike 2.5 miles further to a 300 foot waterfall where you can swim and rest. This hike is DIFFICULT (steep hills, rough terrain, river crossings, and slippery mud on the side of a cliff with no railings) and you should plan for a full day if you intend to complete it. Bring water! There is an outhouse at the second beach, but no drinking water is available along the way.

Kauaʻi Coffee Company

870 Halewili Rd, Kalaheo, HI 96741, USA
(800) 545-8605

Walk through coffee fields, stock up on Hawaiian coffee, and grab ice cream or a sweet treat! This is a "quick stop" that you can squeeze in between other activities.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters

68-690 Waikoloa Rd, Waikoloa Village, HI 96738, USA
(808) 961-5600

Helicopter tours are a popular way to view the Na Pali coast and Waimea Canyon from a different perspective! Some tour companies offer landings at a secluded Jurassic Park scene.

Glass Beach, Eleele, Kauai

This beach is near the dock where our boat cruise will leave! It's not a nice place to swim or lay in the sun, but the beach is full of weathered glass that is fun to find.

Kauai: Wailua River Kayak & Hiking Tour to Secret Falls

4-484 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaʻa, HI 96746, USA

Kayak up the river with a tour guide who will lead you on a short hike to a hidden waterfall where you can swim in the pool and then enjoy a picnic lunch.
