Our Story

From Growing Up to Growing Old Together

Some love stories begin quietly. Theirs started in a stadium full of fans on April 1st, 2015.

Cassie had known of Mikey for years. Growing up just a few miles apart in Petaluma, they were crosstown rivals—she at Petaluma High, he at Casa Grande. Though their paths had crossed at parties and social gatherings, they had never spoken. But Mikey had a way of sticking in Cassie’s mind. There was something about him that was impossible to ignore.

That spring, fate stepped in. Cassie and her best friend Joelle Krist (bridesmaid) scored last-minute tickets to the Battle of the Bay—Giants vs. A’s—with incredible seats on the third base line. Knowing that Mikey’s best friend Tyler Nadolski (best man) was also at the game, they invited him to join. Tyler brought along a few friends— Evan Carey (groomsman) and, as destiny would have it, Mikey Marshall.

Though they weren’t seated next to each other, Cassie and Mikey locked eyes more than once that night, and flirtation sparked instantly. Mikey was direct—he wanted to get to know her. Cassie was unsure. She wasn’t sure if the popular yet mischievous guy she remembered from high school had grown into someone worth taking seriously.

But what came next was unexpected: they didn’t jump into romance right away. Instead, they became friends. Within their growing social circle, they started spending time together—teasing, joking, and building something playful, natural, and completely unique.

Eventually, Mikey asked Cassie on her very first dinner date. He picked her up from her parents’ house with flowers in hand and took her to California Pizza Kitchen. Trying to appear as “ladylike” as possible, Cassie used a fork and knife to cut her pizza—something they laugh about still to this day.

Their relationship deepened that summer, but the real test came when Cassie left for college at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. While most college couples drift apart, Mikey and Cassie kept finding their way back to each other. Mikey visited as often as he could, and when Cassie came home for breaks, they made the most of every moment.

It helped that Mikey had a home away from home at Cal Poly—Cassie’s older brother Brooks (groomsman) was also a student there. The two siblings overlapped for two years in school, and Mikey quickly became a fixture in Brooks’ fraternity house on his visits. Their bond grew strong, and those weekends solidified what had already started to feel true: Cassie and Mikey weren’t just dating—they were becoming family.

When Cassie graduated in 2019 and moved back to Sonoma County to pursue her teaching credential, Mikey moved in with groomsmen Chris Ramirez and Jack Smith. Their home, affectionately known as The Willow House, became a hub for their closest friends. And when the world shut down in 2020, Cassie and Mikey weathered lockdowns together alongside Chris, his fiancée Emily, Jack, and his wife Michaela—playing house, making memories, and embracing a rhythm that just felt right.

That winter, they took a leap. They found a cozy house on D Street in downtown Petaluma and moved in just before Christmas. With nothing but a Charlie Brown tree and each other, they spent their first Christmas as roommates—one they now remember as one of their favorites. It was the beginning of their real life together.

The years that followed were filled with joy. Cassie, now deep into her teaching career, and Mikey, working for 7-Up Corporation, filled their life with celebrations, holidays, and spontaneous plans. Cassie never missed an excuse to host or dress up, and Mikey never missed a chance to make her smile. Their home on D Street became a revolving door of friends, family, laughter, and love.

By then, Cassie and Mikey had long felt like family. As the babies of their families—Cassie and Mikey both the youngest of four —their lives had always been full of energy, chaos, and love. Together, they share eight incredible nieces and nephews and they’re also proud godparents to Hendrix, the son of Cassie’s cousin Kyleigh Nadolski (bridesmaid) and Mikey’s best man Tyler - who are married and part of the fabric of their love story.

The truth is, Mikey and Cassie are both deeply social. Between their big families and wide circle of lifelong friends, they’re always off doing something, going somewhere, or celebrating someone. But through it all, their favorite place has always been with each other.

In the summer of 2024, Mikey made a life-changing decision: he left his old job and started a new chapter at PG&E. It was a move not just for his own growth, but for the future he and Cassie were building together. Mikey had always wanted a career where he could grow, provide, and create stability for their future family. But just as important, he recognized how much Cassie admired her father, Mike, and the life he built through hard work and dedication. Mikey deeply respected that—and wanted to offer the same kind of love, security, and strength to their future family.

When Mikey asked Cassie’s dad for her hand in marriage, he said what he had known all along: “It was never a matter of if, only when.”

And when came on May 3rd, 2025.

He planned the perfect proposal with help from the women who know Cassie best: her sister and matron of honor, Jordy Rosselli, his sister in law Trina Marshall (bridesmaid), and her two dearest friends and bridesmaids, Joelle Krist and Isabella Healy. The plan? A girls’ weekend in Tahoe under the guise of celebrating Joelle’s birthday. And somehow, they pulled it off—surprising Cassie, a woman nearly impossible to surprise.

When she was led down to the beach “for photos,” Cassie found Mikey standing alone, a path of candles guiding her toward the water. There, on a blanket laid out on the shore, he asked her to marry him with the most beautiful ring she’d ever seen. Her sister filmed from the bushes, a professional photographer captured the moment, and Cassie—for once in her life completely speechless—but then said yes.

Just when Cassie thought the day couldn’t get any more magical, Mikey brought her to a private room at Garwoods, where both of their immediate families—about 30 loved ones—were waiting to celebrate. Among them were their little nieces and nephews from the Marshall side, wearing shirts that read: Finally, Auntie Cassie. Even they knew it was damn about time!

Cassie’s brother Brooks said he’d never seen his baby sister so humbled, calm, and joyful all at once. “True bliss” were his exact words.

They spent the rest of the weekend on cloud 9, and Mikey had even called Cassie’s boss to get her a day off—because he really had been planning this for years.

The weekend continued with family, friends, and the realization that after 10 years, their next chapter was only just beginning. Cassie and Mikey are finally getting married. And they can't wait to celebrate with all the people who made this journey so meaningful.
