The night Catherine and David met they were invited to a mutual friend’s house. Their host organized a wine night in which each bottle would be served blind. Guests were asked to identify the type of grape, the region where it came from, the cost, describe the flavors they tasted.
After the first glass, it became clear none of the attendees knew anything about wine. Catherine compared the most expensive bottle to a bottle of Trader Joe's finest - two buck chuck - she had with her sister the weekend before. David made comments about tasting tannins after a quick Google search for “What are tannins”.
Throughout the night Catherine and David started forming a connection, but he hadn’t yet worked up the courage to ask Catherine on a date. After leaving the party with nothing but a name, David spent the rest of the night thinking about the amazing girl he’d just met. He woke up early the next day to put on his Sunday best, determined to see her again.
When David arrived at church he found an open seat next to Catherine. He spent the entire service fighting the urge to talk to her. As soon as the service ended David asked Catherine if she’d like to get a cup of coffee together.
True to form, Catherine already had a list of every coffee shop within a five-mile radius. They set out separately to meet at Fount Board in Table. On the way over, Catherine called her best friend, exclaiming “Who ever meets in person anymore!?”
It was pouring that day, and as Catherine made her way to the front steps of the coffee shop, she found David. Having forgotten his umbrella he emptied water from his shoe with one hand while holding open the door with the other.
For the next several hours they shared stories from their past, opened up about their fears, laughed, and explored each other’s dreams for the future.
Now they find comfort in their similarities and draw strength from their differences. Catherine - the planner who has a bucket list for everything. David - the spontaneous, adventurous, midwesterner who swept her off her feet .
They share a passion for the future and stand hand-in-hand as they step forward into marriage.
I'm so glad I met Catherine. Looking back on my move from Wisconsin, to Phili, to Texas, it has been a whirlwind.
I am so thankful we get to spend the rest of our lives together.
