First Meeting:
Brandon and Cathy first met at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA at their freshman year Conservatory orientation, in 2012. Brandon thought Cathy was a dork while Cathy thought that Brandon had a great personality. During this time, Brandon was in a relationship so Cathy moved on and focused on her studies.
The friendship blossoms:
In 2014, Brandon was single and ready to mingle. He and Cathy started spending time together, working on their separate extracurricular projects and binge-watching the TV series, Supernatural. They cracked jokes, went on food adventures, did their homework, and made their way through their favorite TV series.
How Brandon knew they were meant to be:
During one of their many food adventures, Brandon realized Cathy was the one when they went on a dinner escapade to good ol' Carl's Junior. Unsurprisingly, Cathy accidentally spilled Brandon's milkshake all over his car. After cleaning up the milkshake, Cathy and Brandon were so hungry, they decided to eat their burger then and there. Plopped down on the curb by the car, Cathy unwrapped her meal and took a massive, messy bite out of her 1/3 Ib Jalepino burger. Sauce dripped everywhere as she ate and finished her meal. Brandon knew she was the one. (Fun fact, the picture shown above was the day this story happened.)
How Cathy realized her feelings for Brandon:
During a Mu Phi Epsilon Recital in Fall of 2014, Brandon was shredding the guitar during his Muse performance with the Mu Phi Rock Band. It was at this moment that Cathy realized that he looked pretty handsome playing the electric guitar. She spent months denying her feelings, convincing herself that they were just friends, but eventually accepted that she was smitten.
How they got together:
In 2015, the week of Valentine's Day, while they waited in line to order their meal from The Habit, Brandon gained the courage to ask Cathy "to be his Valentine." Unfortunately for him, Cathy assumed he was asking as friends since they spent a lot of time together already. He asked her what she wanted to do and she replied, "We can just stay in the dorm and watch Supernatural, but this time you have to cook an actual meal." They both agreed and spent the evening eating the Dill Specialty Fettucine Alfredo (which was actually Costco Fettucine Alfredo) and surprise, binge-watched Supernatural. Cathy later realized Brandon actually had intended this evening to be a date. He dropped her off at the Tri Delta House and shot his shot. He texted her asking if she wanted to be his girlfriend. After consulting with her Sorority sisters, Cathy was so shy she responded, "Sure. I guess we can do that. Haha"
8 Years Later:
Cathy and Brandon's relationship has been going strong since then. They spent 4.5 years in a long-distance relationship with one another and decided it was time to take their relationship to the next step. Cathy moved from Stockton, CA to Hesperia, CA on October 31, 2020. They bought a house, moved in together, got three dogs (Benji, Kiki, and Kiwi), and started a new adventure.
May 22, 2022- The proposal:
At this point in life, Brandon had Cathy convinced that a proposal and marriage was going to happen in 3-5 years due to their life's current goals. Their life had been so hectic, they hadn't had a chance to go on a date in a long while.
After dinner and a movie, Brandon wanted to take Cathy up to the Vista Point Lookout. Cathy grabbed Brandon's sweater sitting in the back of the car not realizing something special lay waiting in the pocket. Brandon panicked and immediately grabbed the sweater from her hands saying that he would, "move it out of the way for her," and quickly walked to the other side of the car. She informed him that she wanted to use his sweater so he quickly moved the gift from his jacket and gave her his sweater. Brandon was disappointed and thought the surprise was ruined. Cathy still had no idea.
30 minutes later, they arrived at the lookout to go stargazing. Cathy was really cold and just wanted to go home. Brandon had to convince her that he had something to show her; he wrote her a song. He pulled out a chair, bundled her in thick blankets, and the performance began. At the end of the song, he sang the 5 words Cathy had been waiting to hear for months now. "Cathy, will you marry me?" Extremely surprised, and through happy tears, she nodded her head and said, "You dummy. Yes, I will."
Cathy and Brandon have shared quite a journey together. Their love story has encountered many challenges, but they have learned that together they can overcome mountains. They have been there for each other through the good times, the happy times, the sad times, and in sickness and in health. Cathy and Brandon are excited to begin the next chapter in their life and they are ecstatic to share this day with you.
