How we met

In the spring of 2021, Charlie started to attend Toledo women's tennis matches in support of a mutual friend. It was at this time that Charlie first began to notice Eileen. Shortly after Charlie attended a few tennis matches, he and Eileen were paired up on a group date. During dinner the two bonded over their Catholic faith and love of a good margarita. Charlie's affection towards Eileen strengthened because of her faith, sweetness, and humor. Over the next year, Charlie and Eileen's friendship grew as Charlie never missed an opportunity to see her. They began to frequently hang out with a group of friends and attend mass together on Sundays.

Throughout the following school year, they shared many memorable moments and Eileen found herself excited when Charlie would come around to talk to her. Eventually, Charlie expressed his feelings towards Eileen and his desire to be more than friends. Although Eileen stated she wanted to remain friends, she secretly always felt a sense of comfort, warmth, and joy in Charlie’s presence.

In the spring of 2022, Eileen was at tennis practice when Father Jeremy Miller, campus Pastor and volunteer assistant tennis coach, mentioned to Eileen that he heard Charlie has a crush on her. Eileen immediately had butterflies, and Fr. Jeremy said she should think about it because “he was a good guy" and thought "you would make a good couple.” Taking this to heart, Eileen finally acknowledged her feelings for Charlie and wanted to let him know her desire to be more than friends. With the help of mutual friends, Drew and Sloane, Charlie asked Eileen to go on a walk in Wildwood Park. There, she admitted her affection towards Charlie but stated that she would like to take things "slow." Although Charlie agreed to take the relationship “slow,” Charlie immediately invited her to his family Easter brunch to which Eileen eagerly agreed…and met his family 5 days after their first official date. From then on, Eileen and Charlie have grown in love with each other, and more importantly, have deepened their relationship with the Lord together.

The Engagement

June 1st, 2024

One Saturday morning, Charlie asked Eileen to go back on a walk to the same spot where Eileen admitted she liked him. Once they got to the spot, Charlie knelt down and asked Eileen to marry him, to which she replied “No, no, no…are you sure?” With tears in her eyes and a feeling so great she still can’t describe, Eileen said “Yes of course.” Charlie had everything planned, he hired a photographer to capture the moment, stole a dress out of her closet for her to change into for pictures, asked her family and his family to go to his lake for the weekend, and asked their close friends to go up Sunday morning for a surprise engagement party!
