What airport should I fly into?
Galeao International Airport (GIG) or Santos Dumont (SDU).
Where should I stay?
There are a ton of amazing hotels and locations in Rio, but we are working with Sheraton Grand Rio Hotel and Resort for our guests to get the best deal and an awesome hotel. Please see "hotel" tab for more info. This hotel is also where the vans to and from the venue will be.
What's the weather like in August?
June-August is winter in Rio. The best time! It is not too hot or humid with a high of 78°F and a low 67°F
How long is the flight to Rio?
Coming from Michigan or California: Around 14 hours.
What is the best way to get around?
Uber and taxi. I recommend only ordering *Uber Black* in Brazil. The cars are bigger and nicer.
Do people speak much English in Brazil?
To be honest, no. The main language is Portuguese. But you can usually find someone that speaks a little English. Most hotel staff will be able to speak English as well.
Where is the venue?
The venue is in a neighborhood of Rio called Santa Teresa. It is called Casa de Santa Teresa and has a beautiful view of Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer! Venue website: https://casadesantateresa.com.br/
What plane route do we usually take?
Panama is a great place to stop because it is in the middle and an easy airport. For example, if we are flying from DTW, we usually do DTW> Washington or Chicago> Panama>Rio. It is usually United Airlines, then changes to Copa airlines.
What time does the wedding start?
Right now, the wedding is set to start at 2:30pm, with the ceremony starting at 3pm, and end at 10pm, but this could change since it is so far away. We will keep our guests updated.
What do we wear to a wedding in Brazil?
Same thing as the U.S.! *Cocktail attire* Keep in mind it will be outside and does cool down at night in the winter.
Is Rio safe?
Please be aware of your surroundings in Rio. The biggest piece of advice we have is to not use your cell phone on the streets unless you have to.
What is the currency in Brazil?
The currency is called REAL. (R's sound like H's in Portuguese!) You can find money exchange places in the airport. But, most places take credit cards as well. Recently, 1 USD has been ranging from 4.78-4.92 REAL
