Q + A

What is the dress code?

We'd love to see our family and friends get dressed up for our big day! Dress to impress in your best cocktail attire. Please no jeans/denim and avoid shades of white. Ladies can wear floor-length, tea-length, or midi dresses. Gentlemen can wear a suit jacket (tie optional). Family who will be involved in family photographs are encouraged to wear earth-tones and no black! The Welcome Party dress code is Western casual. Denim allowed! We encourage guests to wear their best western attire (cowboy boots, hats, bolo ties, etc.) for the Welcome Party!

Directions/Driving Instruction to the Venue

The drive to the ranch is a 40-min (from Helena) beautiful, scenic ride past Hauser Lake and through Helena National Forest! Summer Star Ranch is located at 7451 Owl Gulch Road Helena, MT 59602. The address is available for directions in Google Maps and Apple Maps. Please arrive at the venue 30-minutes before the ceremony time (arrive at 3:30pm) in case of any issues getting to the ranch! If for some reason, the ranch is not populating in your GPS, please navigate past Hauser Lake to York Bar. At York Bar, make a left onto Nelson Road for 5.2 miles. When nearing the ranch, you will see 1 sign on the right and 1 sign on the left that says "Summer Star Ranch" and the ranch will be on your left! The road to the venue is a well-maintained dirt road. Please be mindful of wildlife when driving home from the wedding!

What time should I arrive?

The ceremony will begin at 4:00pm. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the ceremony to allow time for parking and finding your seat. The venue is 40-minutes away from most lodging in Helena.

Where do I park?

Our venue has free on-site parking that is less than 50 yards from the ceremony and reception site. Cars must be parked in the gravel and NOT on grass (due to local fire restrictions). Vehicles cannot be left overnight. We encourage guests who will be drinking to carpool with a designated driver so that everyone gets home safely and no cars are left overnight. There will be a fee charged by the venue for any vehicles left overnight.

Can I take pictures during the ceremony?

We are having an unplugged ceremony, meaning that once the ceremony begins, we ask that all phones be put away and silenced. We want everyone to be fully present with us and for our photographer to be able to capture the best pictures which we will share with you. Once the ceremony is over feel free to take as many pictures as you'd like and don't forget to share them with us!

Will there be service at the wedding?

Due to the remoteness of the venue, there will be little to no service at the celebration. We encourage guests to use this as a time to get unplugged from the world and enjoy the night with friends and family! For emergencies, the nearest spot with service is 1-mile away.

Will there be a bar?

Yes! Beer, wine, seltzers, two specialty cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages are on us! The venue does allow outside alcohol, so if you have a preferred drink, you are welcome to bring it! If you plan on drinking, please have a ride planned ahead. We do not support drunkenness, but would like all guests to get home safely.

Wedding Rehearsal vs. Welcome Party

Both the Wedding Rehearsal and Welcome Party will take place the night before the wedding (8/23/24). The Wedding Rehearsal is required only for the bridal party, officiant, and parents/grandparents of the bride/groom. This will be a time of practicing the ceremony order, bridal party entrances, music, etc.! The Welcome Party will take place immediately after the rehearsal and will be an open invite to all guests invited to the wedding! We would love to use the night to spend extra time with our favorite people and thank them for traveling so far to celebrate with us! This is an optional event, but we would love to see you there! Your RSVP will let you know if you are required to attend the ceremony rehearsal or not!

Are kids welcome?

We love your little ones! We will include all children invited on your invitation with the word "family" (ie. 'Smith Family' = parents and kids are welcome!). We will have limited yard games that are available for adults and kids to play. If your child has a preferred toy, they are welcome to bring it! We just ask that all toys be silenced during the ceremony. Thank you for understanding!

What do I do if I can't make it?

You will be dearly missed! If you cannot make it to the wedding, please let us know as soon as possible and RSVP "not attending" so we can plan accordingly. Thank you!

Will the ceremony/reception be inside or outside?

The ceremony will be held outside and the reception will be inside. Although the wedding will be in the summer in Montana, the weather can change quickly- we recommend bringing a jacket just in case!

What airport should I fly into?

The closest airport is the Helena Regional Airport in Helena, Montana. The next closest airports are the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (1.5-hours from Helena) and The Missoula Montana Airport (just under 2-hours from Helena). We recommend booking your flight 4-10 months from the wedding, lodging at least 4 months in advance, and rental cars as soon as possible (due to high demand!). Hotels booked through the Dorey Wedding hotel block can be booked up-to 30 days prior to the event.

What lodging should I reserve?

We will have hotel blocks at the Comfort Suites Helena Airport, Home2Suites Helena, and La Quinta Inn & Suites for guests to reserve. Click the "Travel" tab for more information. To reserve a room in our hotel block, call either hotel and tell the booking agent you are booking with the Henricksen/Dorey Wedding Party and they will give you a room in our block with the discounted wedding rate. Rooms not booked in the block within 45-days of the wedding will be released. For those traveling together or in groups, Airbnb and VRBO have great rental options!

We are extending our stay to explore Montana! What should we do?

We LOVE this question! Montana has been our home for over 3 years and we are so happy that our friends and family are staying to explore! Please visit the 'Things to do' tab on this website that will give more information on what to do around Helena, Yellowstone, and Glacier!

What will the weather be like?

The temperature will range from mid 70's to low 80's during the day and low 50's during the night. Late August will be the tail-end of fire season here in Montana so depending on the weather, there may be some smoke in the air. Currently, the area is in a fire ban and campfires are not aloud due to the heat/dryness in the area.

What if it rains?

We will make the most of whatever weather God gives us on the wedding day! We will have a rain plan, but encourage guests to check the weather beforehand and come prepared with a jacket, umbrella, or poncho! A little rain won't stop us!

What should we pack?

A nice casual outfit for the Welcome Party, a cocktail-attire outfit for the Wedding Day, a light jacket, and your best dancing shoes! Don't forget your ID for the plane! For those exploring Montana before/after the wedding, we recommend packing hiking boots, a sweatshirt or jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, bear spray (for hiking- can be bought in Helena!).

What transportation should I reserve?

Transportation to/from the wedding and welcome party will be the guests responsibility. We recommend guests to rent a car through Hertz, Budget, Enterprise, or National at the Helena Airport (or whichever airport you will be flying into!). We encourage guests flying in together to carpool to the events! Uber and Lyft are also available in Helena for guests to use, but the prices are quite high due to limited availability!

Can I bring a guest/date?

Due to limited space, we are only able to accommodate those guests formally invited on your wedding invitation. If you receive a plus one they will appear under your name when you RSVP. Thank you for understanding and please feel free to reach out with any questions!

When do I need to RSVP by?

Please RSVP by June 24th by going to the "RSVP" tab on this website. If you do not RSVP in time you will be marked as a "No". We will miss you celebrating with us, but we have to provide total guest counts to the venue and caterer in a timely manner. We hope that you understand.
