Things to Do

Sutton is a picturesque, rural area located in the middle of the Blackstone Valley - conveniently accessible by the Mass Pike and Route 146. There are many nature filled spots to visit including ponds, rivers, a golf course, hiking trails, farms, and more. Listed below are just a handful of the beautiful areas that can be visited during your stay here.

Purgatory Chasm

198 Purgatory Rd, Sutton, MA 01590

Purgatory Chasm is part of a protected state park consisting of a large cleft in the earth with caves to explore and rocks to climb. This chasm is believed to have been created by a sudden release of dammed-up glacial meltwater near the end of the last Ice Age, approximately 14,000 years ago. There are many easy walking paths around the edges to explore the forests, and a stream with an attached pond filled with frogs. There are also picnic spots and a playground for your little ones to enjoy. Please visit the attached mass.gov site link for further details on parking, visiting hours, etc.
