A Short Story Even Shorter

It all began at a baby shower in Washington, D.C. in February 2024, hosted in honor of Ciersyn’s sister-in-law, Emily, and brother, Celtin. Ciersyn, busy helping host the shower, had no intention of meeting anyone that day—little did she know that someone was quietly admiring her from across the room: one of Celtin’s friends, Noah.

Life moved on, but throughout the year, Celtin and Emily playfully tried to set up their friend and sister. Noah remembers the occasional nudge from Celtin about dating Ciersyn, while Ciersyn recalls more than a few times Noah’s name was suggested as a possible match. Both kindly declined the idea.

Fast forward to October 2024. Ciersyn was back in D.C. visiting family, and a planned girls’ night with Emily took an unexpected turn when Celtin and three of his friends—Noah among them—crashed the evening. As friendly conversation filled the night, Celtin once again asked Noah if he’d be interested in going out with his little sister. This time, Noah said he’d consider it.

Legend has it, when Emily asked Ciersyn if she’d go on a date with Noah, she replied, “Not if he’s the last man on earth.” But not long after returning to South Carolina, Emily texted Ciersyn again, asking one more time. Whether to get Emily off her back or because her curiosity had grown, Ciersyn finally agreed.

Noah, thrilled, got her number—and spent three hours drafting the perfect first text. He held onto it for a full day before sending it. When Ciersyn didn’t respond for 14 hours, Noah assumed she wasn’t interested. But then came the reply—and a first date was set.

For the next month, they texted and called late into the night, learning as much as they could about each other across the miles. When the long-awaited first date arrived, Noah drove Ciersyn’s car (missed four turns, forgot to turn on the headlights, and didn’t realize the Lincoln Memorial was closed)... but thankfully, dinner was great. He walked her back to Celtin and Emily’s apartment and asked if they could see each other again. Without hesitation, Ciersyn said yes.

Maybe it was his charm, maybe it was his smile—but by then, Noah had her attention. Add in a few long drives from South Carolina to D.C., a handful of thoughtful dates, and by the end of the third, they both knew: they were soulmates.

In December 2024, Noah asked Ciersyn’s dad, Chad, if he could officially date his daughter. By February 2025, he asked for her hand in marriage. And in March 2025, they were engaged!

From their very first conversation to every step since, Noah and Ciersyn have felt God’s peace, presence, and guidance. They both believe—with full hearts—that their relationship has been lovingly ordained by Him.

There will be exactly 276 days between their first date and their wedding day. Some might say it’s fast, but when you know, you know—and more importantly, God knows.

Noah and Ciersyn cannot wait to celebrate their love and covenant before God, surrounded by the family and friends who mean the world to them, on August 23, 2025.
