Below you will find an extensive list of activities that Clare and Michael believe are worth doing if you're visiting Duluth and the North Shore. Take a scroll for some inspiration and enjoy your North Shore getaway.
Duluth Activities:
Sit along Lake Superior and listen to the waves.
Hike along a section of the Superior Hiking Trail.
Visit the Lincoln Park Craft District in Duluth - don't forget to stop at Love Creamery for the best ice cream around!
There are plenty of breweries to check out if that's something you like to do - some favorites include Bent Paddle, Ursa Minor, Lake Superior Brewing, Duluth Cider, and Castle Danger.
Get a meal at At Sara's Table Chester Creek Cafe. This is Clare and Michael's neighborhood restaurant. Afterward, take a walk up Chester Park Drive and into the Chester Park trails.
Hike through Hartley. It's a beautiful park in the middle of the city near the UMD campus. Our favorite place to hike is to the top of Rock Knob. This is where we went on our very first date together.
Go mountain biking. Michael's favorite trails are at Hartley, Lester Park, and Mission Creek.
Park in the small lot at Twin Ponds and walk the trail that goes into the woods from the parking lot. Clare and Michael think this provides the absolute best views of Lake Superior and the city of Duluth.
Jump in Lake Superior! Some of our favorite access points include the beach on 42nd Ave E and London Road, any section of Park Point, or Brighton Beach (that's where Michael asked Clare to marry him).
North Shore activities:
Visit one of the many state parks - Gooseberry Falls, Tettegouche, Temperance River, Cascade River, and so many more.
For those with kids looking for a little adrenaline boost, visit the North Shore Adventure Park in Silver Bay, MN
Take a drive up to Grand Marais. It's a charming little town with lots of great hiking, lake views, smoked fish, and storefronts.
Hike along a section of the Superior Hiking Trail.
Go agate hunting.
Jump in Lake Superior! But now it's even colder than the water in Duluth :D
Find an outfitter and rent some kayaks to paddle on the big lake.
Drive up the Sawbill Trail or Gunflint Trail - bonus points if you get your feet wet in the Boundary Waters!
Ride the gondola at Lutsen Mountain Resort.
Walk around the North House Folk School campus and check out all the fun classes taking place.
