Our Wedding

Our story is a simple, old-fashioned one; we met at work and were friends first. (Don’t worry, our bosses approve this love story 😉) We met in November 2019 when Kate moved to Nashville, TN to begin a position at Vanderbilt University. A year and a half prior to that, Clay finished graduate school at Belmont University and, knowing Nashville was home, started a job at Vanderbilt in Development and Alumni Relations; the same department Kate would join just over a year later. They were work colleagues only for months; sparsely chatting when Clay when would pass Kate’s desk on the way to the break room and at office meetings and holiday parties. When Kate first met Clay, she thought he was nice but a little intense. Clay thought Kate was cute and mysterious. When COVID-19 took us all by surprise in March 2020, Kate returned back home to Alabama for two months to quarantine with friends and when she returned in May, Clay and Kate began weekly lunches and dinners with close friend, Sarah Whitney, and their friendship started from there! They bonded over sports and their love of Nashville; fast forward to Thanksgiving 2020 and they began the first stage of the modern love story: the texting phase. This rocked on for MONTHS. Although this period felt long and drawn out at times, a friendship was solidified and turned out to be the perfect foundation for a relationship. Finally realizing this was the real deal, Clay took Kate on their first date to Johnny Cash’s Bar and BBQ; Clay got fried chicken and Kate got meatloaf (this dinner choice absolutely disgusted Clay but Kate knew that if he couldn’t accept her and her love for odd food choices, this would never work). Eventually Clay was able to move past the decision, and their love story grew from there. Dates in the beginning consisted of dinner followed by three-hour car rides around Nashville because Kate didn’t have guest parking at her condo and Clay had roommates.Fast-forward two and a half years— many Regal Movie pass dates, Southwest flights, and countless sport events later—Clay proposed on Saturday, August 26th, which absolutely caught Kate off-guard in the best way. Clay and Kate are thrilled to share their special day, March 8, 2024, with family and friends, and to begin a life full of fun, adventures, making a home together, and not taking themselves too seriously 😊 We are honored by the love we have received and are grateful for the family and friends in our lives that have celebrated and prayed with + for us along the way.&nbsp;

Depending on where you're traveling from, a flight might be the best option. If you choose to fly, we recommend looking at flights to Pensacola, FL., as they are typically more cost effective and, from there, renting a car to Mobile. The drive from Pensacola to Mobile is approximately 1 hour depending on traffic. If you choose to drive, below are the approximate travel times from Nashville and Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati: Nashville to Mobile: ~ 6.5-7 hoursNorthern Kentucky/Cincinnati to Mobile: ~10.5-11 hours

Due to the Festival of Flowers, multiple weddings, and events taking place in Downtown the same weekend of the wedding, we recommend booking hotels ASAP. It's is approximately a 30-45 minute drive from Downtown Mobile and a beautiful, small, coastal town. Kate spent her childhood summers at her grandparents' bay house located in Point Clear, so Fairhope holds a special place for her and so many that call Mobile home.
