What type of dress code is 'Resort Casual'?
In general, resort casual is more reserved than say weekend joggers and casual clothing. For instance, jean shorts might be in bad taste but then dress jeans in white or black are fine. Clothing should be tasteful, wrinkle-free and neat. Just leave behind clothing that crosses the “too casual” line - like a swimsuit or T-shirt.
What are masculine outfits for the events?
The typical male resort wear outfit is the same type of outfit worn at numerous country clubs. Slacks and polo shirts are preferred by many. You’ll never go wrong with a nice pair of khakis, a polo shirt and a pair of spiffy loafers or boat shoes. Dress sandals are cool but leave the toe thongs. You can switch things up by alternating these casual basics with button down shirts and linen pants. Make sure all shirts you bring with you come with a collar. Collared shirts are expected, which means no t-shirts of any kind. You do have free reign when it comes to colors and patterns. Do you need to wear a tie? No way! And jackets are not expected and actually discouraged, but you may want some kind of sweater or outerwear for the late evening reception and boat ride as it can be breezy and cool.
What are Fem Outfits for the Events?
Resort casual guidelines can be a bit murkier here. It really ranges from nice dresses or skirts and given our pro LGBTIQA+ approach to dress even dress shorts, slacks, and nice button tops are fine too. Acceptable dress and skirt lengths are knee-length, mid-length or maxi. Open-toe sandals, dress wedges and clogs are great! In general, wear shoes that will perform well on grass and soft surfaces. Think solid color pumps, close-toe sandals, loafers or fashionable walking shoes.
Is Aloha Wear Acceptable?
Absolutely!!! In fact, we really want to encourage Aloha clothing as it can add spice and color to your resort wear pant / looks. Aloha shirts and sundresses come in a range of colors and tropical pattern styles. Create an outfit by pairing these shirts with neutral-color slacks and a low-heel pump or loafers. If you enjoy wearing summer dresses tasteful mid-length tank dresses and A-line dresses are great choices too!
Is there parking at the Grand Wailea?
Yes! We're arranged a discounted valet parking fee for Monday and Tuesday. On Monday 10/7 you will want to direct ride share drop offs and parking to the main check in lobby and valet. On Tuesday 10/8 you will want to direct ride share drop offs and parking to the Grand Wailea Makena South Entrance for "events" as that is closer to the ceremony site. Valet parking is $20.
Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?
Weather permitting, the ceremony and reception will be outdoors. Day of we will have an indoor option though but even with a light misty shower we would still plan to be outside. However, should the weather truly not cooperate, we will be moving everything indoors. In all cases though one should being a light cover up as the evenings are much cooler than at sunset.
What will the weather be like?
October on Maui is amazing! October is when the island experiences a transition from the hot summer months to a more temperate climate. The average daytime temperature hovers around 79°F (26°C) – 82°F (28°C), while evenings cool down to a comfortable 65°F (18°C) – 68°F (20°C). The ocean remains warm so you won’t have to sacrifice water activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, and surfing. The chance of rain is relatively low in October and if we do experience rain, it’s typically short-lived.

Will there be an after party?
Given the three (3) days of events we decided to go light on the after party plans. On Monday after the coctail party Chris and I will likely sneak away for a small family dinner on the property. As it really is only cocktails guests are welcome/encouraged to linger in the hotel lobby sushi bar Botero or any of the great resturants. On Tuesday after the reception and show around 10pm those looking to keep it going can make it to the Botero Bar in the lobby or Pint and Cork which is located at the Wailea Shops. Those places go to about 12am most nights. Finally on Wednesday ... well it's a boat ... so alas once the boat docks you don't have to go home, but ya can't stay on the boat :) Chris and I will head back to the Grand Wailea for farewells, hugs and overall thanks for joining us on the week! We then fly out the next day Thursday late morning!
