Our Wedding

Like many great love stories, ours began with dogs and a volleyball bar. Codi had just wrapped up a dog adoption event, and Cara wandered in... not looking for a dog, but apparently ready to adopt Codi’s heart.On their first date, Codi cooked dinner and Cara came over to meet the dogs. Halfway through the evening, McKinley’s toy mysteriously disappeared- until her snug and unapologetic look gave her away. A panic trip to CVS and a heroic dose of hydrogen peroxide later, the toy was retrieved, McKinley was fine, and Codi and Cara had unknowingly passed their first test as a team (and learned to keep hydrogen peroxide on hand at all times). About two and a half months into dating, we got our first real test as a couple: our pregnant foster dog went into labor while Codi was coaching a volleyball tournament. Cara stepped in as a doggie doula and helped deliver six puppies. Nothing says “soulmate energy” like texting someone you’ve known for eight weeks, “well... she has already had three puppies"The proposal was perfectly us- chaotic, unpolished, and full of love. We were in the garage playing darts with a couple of close friends, surrounded by dogs and Christmas clutter. Codi really wanted Cara to open something “small and personal” from her stocking before Christmas. Inside was a disco ball cowboy boot ornament (two of Cara's favorite things). When it was Codi's turn to open something "small and personal" it ended up being the most beautiful ring she had ever seen. Codi was wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt with her dog McKinley’s face on it. The video is blurry, full of animals and curse words, and absolutely perfect.Now our life is an adventure of trips, niece and nephew hangouts, rescue dogs, messy kitchens, and really good people. We love hard, laugh loud, and choose each other every day.We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

No maids/men/theys/thems- just unconditional love, emotional support fur, and a few behavioral issues. We chose not to have a traditional wedding party, but we will take any excuse to talk about our animals. They’ve carried us through grief, growth, rescue chaos, and some of the happiest years of our lives. They are family so this page belongs to them.

McKinley runs our home like a Fortune 500 company and we are simply her staff. She is equal parts loving and unhinged, prefers things exactly her way, and believes in firm diplomacy backed by snack enforcement. Codi adopted her 10 years ago at age 21, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Cara knew she was truly in love when McKinley approved her application.

Dale is small but terrifying- like a spicy Tostito. He will be monitoring the perimeter for danger, suspicious activity, or anyone who tries to pet him without consent. Please do not look him directly in the eyes unless you are ready for a long-term emotional commitment. He works best unsupervised and fueled by shredded cheese.

Turkey may no longer be with us physically, but she’s still running the emotional side of this operation. She was the purest soul, the best snuggler, and the fiercest little fighter. She showed us how to love deeply and unconditionally, and how to keep going, even when love hurts. She will always be part of our story, our family, and this celebration. Her collar will be saved a seat at the wedding.

Turkey

Barbara is our proudest foster fail and the first dog we adopted together. We started fostering her during the January snowstorms, and it didn’t take long for her to make herself right at home. We like to think Turkey had a paw in bringing her to us when we needed her most.

Barbara loves to play, cuddle, and eat all the treats. She’s also a big fan of ice (we call it the “pitbull tax” anytime someone opens the freezer) and will occasionally scream for dramatic effect.

AJ is… AJ. He somehow ended up on the wedding website because, realistically, he’s probably never getting adopted. He’s awkward, suspicious of joy, and looks a little like Ed from The Lion King. Despite being taken everywhere to “socialize,” he remains deeply concerned about social situations and what they want from him. But he is loyal, unintentionally hilarious, and brutally himself at all times. Honestly, inspiration.

Parker lives in the gated community of the back half of the house for everyone’s safety. She believes personal space is a myth and will bite or swat anyone who looks at her with the wrong tone. She is not currently accepting new friends.

She lives in peaceful isolation in the back half of the house where she can use recreational catnip, focus on her portfolio, and avoid emotionally unstable dogs. She has no plans to attend the wedding and would appreciate it if everyone respected her artistic process.

Wedding Party

We can’t wait to celebrate with you in Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona - a cozy mountain town in the White Mountains surrounded by tall pines and cool mountain air. Travel here takes a little planning, so we’ve laid out your best options below. IMPORTANT – BOOK EARLY!Our wedding weekend falls on the 42nd Annual Run to the Pines Car Show, as well as Fall Festival. Hotels, cabins, rental cars, and flights WILL book up early. We highly recommend making travel and lodging arrangements as soon as possible. Driving from Oklahoma (for our Okla-Homies!)Approx. 12–13 hour drive (775 miles) depending on stopsMost common route: I-40 for about 550 miles, then a beautiful scenic drive through the El Malpais National Monument, followed by a lovely jaunt through several small towns in Eastern Arizona. A lot of our friends and family are planning to road trip. If you want to carpool or caravan, let us know and we’ll help connect people! Can I bring my kids?Due to space limitations, we are only able to include children of immediate family in our ceremony and reception. We love your little ones, but this will be an adults-only celebration. Thank you for understanding and giving us a night of grown-up fun! What is the parking situation?The venue is approximately two miles from The Nook. We highly recommend rideshare options or SafeRide. However, if you choose to drive, park along Redwood Lane and walk along the lighted path through the woods. Please plan footwear accordingly. What should I wear?Think Mountain Chic - dressy but relaxed.Because our wedding is outdoors in the woods:-Avoid high/stiletto heels - uneven ground + pine needles don’t mix.- Dress warm - even at the end of September, mountain evenings get chilly.-We will have outdoor heaters, but layers are still highly recommended (jackets, wraps, boots, etc.). Is there an open bar?Yes! Enjoy our full open bar with beer, wine, and signature cocktails. What’s the weather like in Pinetop in late September?Days are usually in the mid-70s, but nights can drop into the 40s. It’s crisp mountain weather - bring layers so you can stay cozy once the sun goes down. When is the RSVP deadline?Please RSVP by July 31st. Since our wedding is during the busiest autumn weekend in Pinetop, we need a headcount early for catering, shuttles, and seating. The sooner you RSVP, the more our sanity thanks you.
