In 2019, Sydney was living in North Carolina working for John Deere. While home for Christmas, she and her mom went shopping at Syd & Sadie's in Gibson, IL. This has become one of their favorite spots and over their many trips, they have grown close to Theresa and Sydney who run the boutique. On this particular day, Theresa proposed the idea of setting Sydney up on a blind date with her nephew.

That night, Sydney messaged Cole on Facebook to introduce herself.

Cole and Sydney officially exchanged phone numbers. After getting to know each other a bit more, they decided they wanted to meet face to face before Sydney had to return to North Carolina.

Cole drove to Gilman to pick Sydney up from her parents' house. She had spent about an hour getting ready and was very nervous as she tried to imagine what Cole would be like. That night, Cole took Sydney to Champaign for dinner at Seven Saints and they played mini golf at Arrowhead Lanes afterwards. Theresa had been right. Cole was a perfect gentleman. Although, he was so talkative through the phone, he was shy and quiet in person. Cole says that people told him "don't mess this up" and that made him nervous. So when Christmas break was over, Sydney returned to North Carolina and asked Cole if they could remain just friends.

Sydney's job requires her to travel throughout Texas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Irronically, one of the dealers that she supports was located in the town where Cole lived. While in the area, Cole asked Sydney on a date. They spray painted cars at Cadalliac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. Then they ate at Saltgrass Steakhouse and Cole discovered that one of Sydney's least favorite foods is steak. And to round out the date, Cole taught Sydney to drive a stick shift in the mall parking lot.

Just one week after their "second first date", Cole decided to make a last minute, 6 hour drive to visit Sydney. Ever since that weekend, the two have remained inseparable. Their faith, passion to make people laugh, and love for their family and friends have bonded the two together.
