How We Met

Colleen and Stephen first met at a welcome event for new chemistry PhD students on September 15th, 2017. It took a few months for Colleen to get her feet beneath her on campus, but by February she was smitten with her handsome spectroscopy TA. You can guess who the TA was. Everybody except Stephen knew that she was waiting until classes were over to make her move. It wasn't until April 2018 that they got together. (Don't worry, he had already submitted Colleen's final grades for spectroscopy.) In the greenest of "green flags", Stephen, upon entering Colleen's house, immediately laid down on the floor to greet her cat, Lulu. Lulu approved, and to this day, Stephen is still her favorite human by a mile. The rest, as they say, is history. Since 2018, our family has grown to include Seamus, an enormous and poorly-behaved cat who thinks his real name is "Baby, no!" We've moved from California to Illinois to Pennsylvania to Massachusetts. Colleen has supported Stephen through the end of his PhD and his postdoctoral program, and Stephen has supported Colleen through her vet tech program and veterinary school. Marriage won't change much about our day-to-day lives. We already share a home, our cats, and countless wonderful memories. But we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate how fortunate we are to journey through life together. We are honored you are able to to join us for the occasion.

Colleen's Favorite Memory of Lauren: finding out that she was my grandlittle in our sorority, and then being forced to keep it a secret for a week and a half. Decorating (read: wreaking havoc in) Lauren's very orderly dorm room when she was away was especially fun.

Blue Hill Country Club is located at 23 Pecunit Street in Canton, MA. Flying In?By car, Canton is approximately 30 minutes South of Logan International Airport in Boston, MA and approximately 45 minutes Northeast of Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport in Providence, RI. Taking a Train?If you are local or coming from the airport, the best way to get to Canton by public transportation is the MBTA commuter rail. From the airport, take the silver line to South Station and board a train on the Providence/Stoughton line. The venue is a 10-minute taxi ride from the Canton Center stop.If you are coming from afar, Amtrak has stops in both Boston and Providence.

Colleen loves the animals in the tropical forest exhibit and Stephen can't get enough of the African painted dogs.

Franklin Park Zoo

Be sure to visit the Harbor Seals (Stephen's favorite) and the Rock Hopper Penguins (Colleen's favorite)!

New England Aquarium

Take a ferry ride into the harbor to see Spectacle, Georges, or Cathleen Stone Island. Bring your walking shoes, water, and a snack! The Harbor Islands are national and state parks, so be prepared to pack it in, pack it out.

If you're lucky, you'll be in town for a Free Jacks game! The second best rugby in Boston - the first is obviously the Charles River Rats (Colleen's team).

In and Around Canton

One of our favorite places in Canton! They have great beer, tasty food, and a lovely outdoor patio area.

Trillium - Canton

Bring lots of water, sunblock, and your comfy shoes to hike in the Blue Hills. If you climb high enough, you'll have a great view of the Boston skyline.

You can buy tickets as individuals, but it might be more economical if you go as a group. You will need to bring or buy gloves, so plan accordingly. See their site for more details!

TreeTop Adventures

You can check out their calendar for bigger events, but if you're looking for something low-key, see if you can attend one of their trad sessions! If you're lucky, you might also be able to catch the tail end of the GAA season

Space Zero is a 15-20 minute drive from Canton, but think of the travel as banking time your kid will use for naps later that day.
