Birmingham is an amazing food town and the list of time-tested staples, hole in the walls, and new hot spots is too long to list them all here. The list below is categorized by some of Margie and Connor’s favorite places and food types.
Saw’s Soul Kitchen - Saws started with a small humble walk-up in the Avondale community and has now expanded to locations throughout the metro area. Whether you get the Sweet Tea Chicken sandwich, or the Pork N’ Greens (pulled pork and stewed greens served over cheese grits with barbeque sauce and fried onions!) this spot is uniquely Birmingham and a must try!
215 41st St S
Birmingham, AL 35222
Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog Barbeque - Rodney made his unique brand of whole hog Carolina barbeque famous with his own Netflix special and then took his talents to the magic city. These are some of the best ribs you can buy and the sides are great too!
2701 18TH STREET S
HOMEWOOD, AL
Full Moon Barbeque - a perfect choice for grabbing a bite off Highway 280. You will love the barbeque baked potato and if you like spice, make sure you try the chow chow. One of the most underappreciated meals in town is the All-American Burger from Full Moon. This burger tastes like the perfect burger from a summer cookout. Trust me you won’t regret it.
4635 US Highway 280
Birmingham, AL 35242
Tony’s Hotdogs - This hole-in-the-wall is a longtime staple of the Pelham area. Chili dogs, huge burgers, and philly cheese steaks, this place is a heart attack waiting to happen, but I promise you will die happy!
1922 Montgomery Hwy S
Hoover, AL
Tasty Town - This relatively new hot spot is an elevated take on Greek dining and one of Margie and Connor’s favorites (a great go to for date night)! The entrees and drinks are great but the sides and apps are what make Tasty Town better than the rest. Just order appetizers and sides to have a fun shareable meal experience! Get the dolmades to try something traditional yet delicious. If you go, you have to try the zucchini fritters!
16 14TH STREET, SOUTH
BIRMINGHAM, AL 35233
The Pita Stop - Pita Stop has been serving mediterranean foot in the heart of Cahaba Heights for over 30 years. The hummus is great and so are the kabobs! The rollups and pita pockets are a great option for those with kids!

Current Charcoal Grill - With a fancy atmosphere and incredible and unique options, this is Margie's favorite. Reservations are recommended as it's hard to get a table at this one.. because it's so good! The steak is to die for and so is the fried rice. Be sure to get a skewer for your appetizer. At the forefront of the cuisine is sustainably sourced seafood from the Gulf, accompanied by quality produce and proteins from local farmers.
